The Super Late Model portion of the event honors Paul Hudson Salyer, known to many as “The Judge” who was a legendary racer from Magoffin County, Kentucky and he also served as County Judge Executive in that county. He passed away at 76 years of age from natural causes. He served three terms as county Judge Executive in Magoffin County. Salyer raced all over the region and was invited to run some national events but chose to stay close to home to be close to his family and wife Marcella and his children which included Steve “Frito” Howard, Stan “Snowbird” Howard and Cole Hudson Salyer all of which have been involved in dirt track racing for decades. Paul also had two other sons from a previous marriage which included Donald Paul Salyer and Joe Salyer. Joe also raced with Paul and Steve Howard at the former Salyersville Speedway and helped build the track in the 1960’s. Steve Howard is a former competitor, while also working at Half Mountain Speedway and his brother Stan was a long-time crew member for Steve and also worked at the track. Cole also drove a race car briefly. This race pays tribute to a legendary competitor and when folks from around the area say him coming, they would say “Here Comes the Judge”.

The Open Wheel Modified portion of the evening honors the Wince Mayabb. It was his dream, along with Walt and Kevin, to build a track in their hometown town of Campton, KY. The dream began in 2004 and finally became a reality in the fall of 2009 when 191 Speedway hosted two races at the end of the season. The track’s inaugural season began in the spring of 2010. Mayabb tragically lost his life in an accident at the front entrance to his track in August of 2010. Mr. Mayabb was one of the most generous and kind-hearted people that you could ever meet. He never failed to help anyone in need and was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter what the situation. He was known at the track for his peacemaking ability and taking care of all the racers and fans to make sure they had anything and everything they needed to have a good time. He demonstrated a tireless work ethic that was unimaginable.
