By Michael Despain

BURNSIDE, KENTUCKY – June 30, 2018 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would be in action as part of the 4th Annual Finn Watson Memorial at Lake Cumberland Speedway on Saturday evening and Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN would pick up the $3,000 victory for the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series and Clayton Miller of Elkton, KY would the weekend’s Modified action as he would take the $1,000 victory for the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series.

The win for Marlar would come in his first event of the season and would be his second career series victory and would have him driving the Jesse Puckett owned Puckett Automotive, Picker’s Paradise, MAC Metals, Jay Construction and Restoration, 63 Auto Sales, Yaden’s Auto Sales sponsored #88 Club 29 Race Car powered by a Cornett Race Engine. Miller’s victory would be his second-straight of the weekend and fourth career tour checkered flag and would take place in the Lexington Landscape, Wall Construction, C. Blackwell Construction, Hustlin’ Lawn Care, Quick Car, Wyatt-Johnson sponsored #15 Brucebilt Chassis entry.

Skylar Marlar would power his way to the lead at the start of the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series, with polesitter Dustin Nobbe, Todd Coffman, Cameron Marlar, and Jeff Watson giving chase. Tommy Bailey would immediately start to challenge Watson for the fifth position and the duo would make contact in the center of turns three and four, resulting in Watson looping his machine and Steve Stollings would make heavy contact with the outside retaining wall in turn four attempting to avoid the accident and would be finished for the night, resulting in the only caution flag of the event. The restart would see Skylar Marlar open a comfortable lead over Coffman, while Cameron Marlar would challenge Nobbe for the third position, with Marlar looking beside Nobbe on several occasions before Marlar would execute a slidejob pass for the position exiting turn four on lap ten. One circuit later, race leader Skylar Marlar would catch slower traffic and this would allow second-place Coffman to reel in the race leader, with Cameron Marlar also closing in on Coffman at this point as the trio saw the halfway signal on lap fifteen. Skylar Marlar would work his way through lapped traffic and would have clear track again in front of him by lap nineteen, while Bailey began to pressure Nobbe for the fourth position. Bailey would work past Nobbe for the fourth spot on lap twenty-one as Skylar Marlar would catch lapped traffic again on lap twenty-four and would masterfully work through traffic at this point to maintain his lead, while Cameron Marlar would challenge Coffman for the second position. Skylar Marlar would go unchallenged the remainder of the way to score the race victory, with Coffman taking runner-up honors and Cameron Marlar settling for the third position. Bailey and Nobbe would complete the top five. Watson would recover from his early-race accident to finish to head up sixth through tenth at the finish, followed by Rod Carter, Jr., Kenny Cobble, Joey Standridge, and Perry Delaney.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series main event would be slowed by a quartet of caution flags in the first three laps of the event, but those would be the only thing that would slow Clayton Miller on this night and Miller would be strong throughout the twenty-lap contest and score his second-consecutive series victory of the weekend as he would take the checkered flag first, with Ricky Arms closing in the final laps, but settling for the second position. Shon Flanary and Blake Brown would have a great battle throughout the event for the third position, with Flanary winning the battle eventually and finishing third, with Brown coming home fourth, and Victor Lee would claim fifth to complete the top five finishers. The remainder of the top ten would be Jeff Watson, Ben Petrey, Keith Denny, Billy Palmer, and Amos Bunch.

Lake Cumberland Speedway would like to sincerely thank all the racers who supported the Finn Watson Memorial event and also thank the great turnout of race fans from around the area for their support of the event, as the track was in great condition and produced quality race action throughout the evening in all divisions. The track would also like to thank the Watson family for their support, appreciation, and for allowing the track to present the event in memory of Mr. Finn Watson.
