I don’t blame him.... those Michigan races are up there... his stuff is beat up and I know he likes going to the Silver Dollar Nationals race at I-80

sounds like a Moyer move. Drop off the tour when you know you're not winning it. Congrats to Shirley. Well deserved.

It's only a 3 HR drive from Shady hill to Thunderbird and roughly 2 hrs from there to I96.

He tapped out.

Doesnt anybody like a challenge anymore? It could have been a story that sparked interest and drew bigger crowds at these last events. If you cant win, pull er in theory I guess...

The only year the Summernationals meant anything was the year it paid 100,000 to win. Watching Moyer and Bloomquist in their prime battling for 30 nights in a row was amazing.

I was but I was also thinking if Richards also pulled it off to. I'm not a really a fan of him but I don't have anything against the guy. He's a wheeler.

It's official. From Shannon's FB: "Hi everyone! We have made the decision to stay home, re-group and get everything ready for the next few weeks of big races! This Summernationals has been full of ups & downs, but we have enjoyed running as much as we have been able to! A BIG Thank You to all of our Sponsors, Fans, Family & Friends for all your support during this years Summernationals Tour 🙂 and your continued support throughout the year!"

Don’t take it personal, this stage of his career 2nd in that series means nothing to him. Small team his car has to be getting pretty tired and he has to do a lot of that work himself plus there’s a lot of money on the table the next several weeks.

I’m sure if you two fund him with brand new car, motor, all new parts he would stay on the tour to finish.

Can’t blame him it’s hard stay on top every little thing before it brakes. Then ever thing starts add up and take a toll on him and his team. 25-30 races back to back makes it hard to fix parts/problems and find other problems in less 12hrs, if they have that at times. Most regional don’t have 30 races a season 😂.

Hmmmm..... Well, he has made it this far. With five races to go and only 56 points out of the lead. Thats a shot at 25 grand. Oh well, I guess he knows best on what to do at this point in the tour. I wish Babb the best of luck going forward.

Not only that but still a chance at $30k still up for grabs at the events. Whether he's had some bad luck or not he's still a threat to win anywhere

Kwd if he would of dropped off the tour while leading points that would be a valid arguement, but we know he wouldnt have he would of finished the tour to try and win it..so the tired equipment (which im sure it is), is not a good excuse. He started out hot, but sputtered down the stretch and lost the point lead, so he packed it in. I just call it like I see it...

That be true.

And like someone else stated, with I 80 and the PDC coming up (2 races he fairs very well at), he needs to go over his equipment. He's had a lot of parts failures. Maintenance program is essential if you think yer gonna compete with the top tier competitors.

Balls versus Brains. The former do it for glory and bragging rights, the latter do it to get paid and make a living. The Balls crowd die broke, the brains guy take inventory, survey the field of battle and fight when the odds of winning are in their favor. Babb is seasoned enough to know what makes sense for his team and how much it costs him to run per event. The diesel fuel alone is cost prohibitive and racing 5 times for a possible 25K isn't a good trade, especially if you know what the state of your equipment will be going into the season of money. I respect him for making the smart play.

People forget that Babb did the exact same thing last year. He loves I-80, has been a contender the last two years. In his eyes he’s out of the points title (55 points is a lot to make up in 5 days) and this is what’s best to do.

As highside, tacky and husker said, Shannon did this same thing last year. Loves I80, runs good there and of course there's the PDC. And yeah, there's a very fresh XR1 at the shop.

Great run in the Summernats, terrible luck rocked the last 7 nights. Time to move forward....good decision for their team.

Go 18!!

That's what so crazy about the summer nationals. It wasn't just around ten days ago Babb had it won or at least it was looking that way and then the bad luck settled in and now the last week the team is off the tour. The money is just not there to keep the guys on the tour to run for points. I'm not sure what second pays but, apparently not enough for Babb to stay on the entire tour. It's always nice to see the points battle come down to the last weekend of the tour so it looks like that will have to it another year.

On a $5k night second pays $2500 and on a $10k night it pays $5k for second. Winning the points pays $25k. Second place in the points pays $10k. Each week "series" pays an extra $2k.

Good financial decision for Babb with I-80, PDC and USA Nationals coming up. With how he was running up until this week, get his program back on track and challenge for all 3.

Ok Thanks, I wasn't sure what the payout was. Still not enough for Babb to stay on tour.

Word is he broke an engine to boot. The parts failures and blown engine took the wind out of Babb's sails.
