CARTERSVILLE, GA – It was a busy Week 15 in the 27-week 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series with events contested on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday over the July 4th Holiday. There was one lead change among the four Divisions after Week 15 competition, as more drivers reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS drove to his seventh Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the 2018 season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. Scarbrough netted on a 46 to bring his best 14 weekly total to 690 points.

Scarbrough not only sits on top the Weekly Racing Series Late Model National standings, but he also is on top of the Late Model Weekly Point Average (WPA) list at 49.29 out of a possible 50 among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings. Shannon Lee is second in the standings with 663 points and is fifth on the WPA list at 47.36.

Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS is third in the Late Model standings with 653 points and is tenth on the WPA list at 46.64. Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL is fourth in the standings with 632 points, and Dustin Harris of Flintville, TN is fifth with 630 points. All drivers in the Top 5 of the point standings have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons, and are now netting points.

The second, third and fourth-place drivers on the WPA list are currently listed outside of the Top 10 in the point standings. The defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Late Model Champion Josh Leonard of Gibbon, NE is 16th in the standings with 487 points after ten weeks of competition.

Leonard has a WPA at 48.70 to rank second on the list. Leonard started Week 15 action with a win on Wednesday night at 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS, and followed that up on Friday night with his eighth win of the season at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS. In an effort to defend his title, Leonard should be climbing up the points list in the coming weeks.

Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is 17th in the standings with 481 points after ten weeks of competition, and is third in the WPA list at 48.1. Seth McCormack of Muscle Shoals, AL drove to his fifth win of the season on Sunday afternoon at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. McCormack is 12th in the standings with 524 points after 11 weeks of racing, and ranks fourth on the WPA list at 47.64.

North Alabama Speedway has announced that they will run Double Features this Saturday night for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division. The first feature will be a Week 3 Make-Up Race, and the second feature will be the regularly scheduled Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 16 Race.

Lee Ray of Columbus, MS regained the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division point lead after a pair of wins in Week 15 competition. Ray began his week with a 50-point win on Thursday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, and then took a 40-point win on Friday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Ray has a best 14-week total of 668 points, and he is second on the WPA list at 47.71. Ricky Idom did not compete in Week 15 action and dropped to second in the standings with 648 points and one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14-week mark of his season. Idom is on top of the WPA list in the Street Stock Division at 49.85.

Bryan Fortner of Millport, AL is third in the standings with 647 points and is sixth on the WPA list at 46.21. Steve Maughan of Florence, FL is fourth with 641 points, and is tenth on the WPA list at 45.79. Both Fortner and Maughan have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.

Chad Winkles of Hartselle, AL is fifth in the Street Stock standings with 605 points after 13 weeks of competition, and is fifth on the WPA list at 46.54. Winkles picked up his tenth win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Winchester Raceway Park in Winchester, TN.

Jay Geddie of Ellisville, MS is seventh in the standings with 564 points after 12 weeks of racing and is fourth on the WPA list at 47. Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is eighth in the standings with 523 points after 11 weeks of racing and is third on the WPA list at 47.55.

Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division with 652 points, and is the first driver in the Division to reach the 14-week mark. Mitchell is fourth on the WPA list among the Top 20 in the point standings at 46.57.

Tody Ratcliff of Meridian, MS and Brandon Crosby of Anniston, AL are tied for the second spot in the standings with 585 points apiece, and both drivers have completed after 13 weeks of racing. Ratcliff and Crosby are also tied for the eighth spot on the WPA list at 45. Ratcliff has the edge in the tie breaker with two wins, over Crosby’s one victory.

Blake Ray of Russellville, AL is fourth in the Late Model Sportsman standings with 575 points after 12 weeks of racing. Ray is second on the WPA list at 47.92. Haden Duncan of Leighton, AL moved into the top five of the standings with 561 points after 12 weeks of racing, and he is third on the WPA list at 46.75.

Duncan took his tenth win of the season with a 40-point victory on Friday night at Columbus Speedway. To find the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman WPA leader among the top 20 in the standings, one has to go down to the 19th spot where you’ll find Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS. Thrash has 394 points after eight weeks of racing, and a WPA of 49.25.

Andy Davis of Argo, AL still leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with 465 points after 12 weeks of racing, and is tied for the third spot on the WPA list at 39. Chris Yarbrough of Eastaboga, AL took over sole possession of the second spot in the standings with 430 points after 11 weeks of racing, and he is second on the WPA list at 39.09.

Yarbrough took his fourth win of the season on Tuesday night in a Week 9 Make-Up Race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Justin Angle of Anniston, AL is third in the standings with 429 points after 11 weeks of racing and is also tied for third on the WPA list at 39.

Ron Bailey of Huntsville, AL is fourth in the Modified Sportsman Division standings with 392 points after ten weeks of racing, and he is on top of the WPA list at 39.20. Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN rounds out the top five in the standings with 390 points after ten weeks of racing and he is also in the three-way tie for the third spot on the WPA list at 39.
