Hard to argue otherwise. Richards just don't have the same win column

Hard to argue? Bloomquist has more wins, more money won and has won the two biggest races of the year. LOL.

Its not based on the whole year. It is heavily based on what you did this week too. Just like a college football or basketball poll.

You could make a play his Cherokee win but it's discussed here regularly that the DoD top 25 is a right now thing. That 19th at Muskingum co is ugly. LOL

And the DNQ at the Firecracker counts into that as well.

Now when they announce Driver of the Year then you can complain about it not being whomever you say has had the best year.

Thanks guys for the responses. So its based on weekly results? Why is Shirley not number 1 then?

He did go from 14th to 9th and will likely make more gains next week if he finishes the tour as strong as he has been. Like Flagone said, they kind of move through the rankings like NCAA.

SO it's just a weekly poll.

Pretty impressive considering (to my knowledge) Marlar has a 9-5 during the week. Obviously he has a good team behind him but are there any other top 25 drivers that have day jobs? I ask because I'm not sure on some of them.

I think he owns a business, but obviously isn't there much. Said he probably won't be home till after the North/South. Still very impressive, and deserving, heck of a good guy and racer!

Take away the dream winning it’s not far of winnings. Scott made little over 30k more than marlar. Stats Bloomquist 8 first, 24 top 5s, 26 top 10s. Scott has raced 38. Marlar 4 first, 24 top 5s, 30 top 10s. Marlar has raced 34 times. Tour vs tour Scott has 21 top 10s out of 28 races. Marlar 21 top 10s out of 23 races, reason he tied for point lead.

I don’t see how any can hate that marlar ranked number 1 this week. My question is has marlar ever ran full tour with woo? If not, how he not the lead rookie of the year so far?

Nothing against Marlar but Bloomers show me and dream wins puts him way over the top!

Even college football considers a teams whole body of work.

Agreed they do consider the body of work. But when it comes down to what happened this week and last week among the top 5 what happens? If a team loses a game do they drop? How about 2 or 3? It similar. Scott has run good but he has had some bad runs too. Marlar has been on a heater so he climbed past he and Madden. I don't know why it is so hard to understand.

Hard to argue with either of ya...wonder when the 157 and the 0 will battle head to head again I 80?

It's called weekly ranks not year to date rankings.

And if we don't agree, it turns into weekly....rants! :)

Question for ya Kelly......is it just about on-track performance?

If off-track counts, Marlar is slightly more personable and slightly less drama queen! :)

Well obviously it is subjective. Its 10 people's opinions averaged together. But it is based on racing. And I think it is 9 pretty good opinions and one lucky fat boy from SC.

lmao!!!

i have railed against the DOD rankings many times over the years, but couldn't help myself when starting this topic. big marlar fan and knew the bloomeroids would jump in. and in this case i'm not so sure they aren't right.

my perspective: poll doesn't mean squat, but it sure is fun to trash talk on message boards!

I agree on their top 10 95% of the time, but 11th-25th is just pretty much a teenage High School popularity contest among the guys that pick them. Why's a lot of people saying it's a "weekly" poll? Billy Moyer can take a month or two off and stay in the top 25. I know it's really just a meaningless poll but it's kinda sad when a guy doesn't go to Arizona or Florida and is in the top 25 versus someone who went and raced at one or both and isn't even considered....

Marler to me is just not #1in racing but the guy is #1 in being humble and loving his fans...Marler has all ways got time for his fans...he has giving my son his trophy after winning a big race and not just my son but he has giving many kids his trophy after a race...i don't care where they rank him..he is one of the best...so he will all ways be #1 in my rankings..

Marlar hasn't finished outside the top 5 on over a month, other than losing a tire while leading in Iowa the other night. Most these tracks he has never even seen or hasn't been to in quite awhile. He's been the most consistent car on tour in that time, other than Madden of course.

The debate could go on forever, I think what Mike is doing is very impressive. This is his first year on any kind of tour in years.

Since we're comparing it to football ... Kel, is any consideration given to Strength of Schedule?

Terry - yes. For example a guy like Max Blair has just reemerged on the poll even though he has 17 wins this year and 25 top 5s in his 29 starts. And then there is Michael Page who has won 12 races and ran top 5 in all but 3 races he has run including the national tour events. He broke an engine at Boyd's Lucas event after qualifying 3rd quick. So I think it shows that a guy like Hudson O'Neal is up the list quite a bit and primarily only runs Lucas and only has one win on the tour added to some local / regional wins.

It’s a week to week thing right now, and congrats to Marlar. That guy has really paid his freaking dues. I wouldn’t put anyone ahead of him. Glad he has a great time behind him and is just on it right now.
