CARTERSVILLE, GA – Rain has once again forced postponement of this weekend’s scheduled races for the Durrence Layne Dirt Late Model Series National Tour at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA on Friday night and at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA on Saturday night. This marks the second time this season that these races have been postponed.
Officials at both tracks are reporting grounds that are already saturated from rain that has already fallen over the past few weeks. That combined with a forecast that shows a 90 percent chance of rain for Friday night and an 80 percent chance of rain for Saturday night forced series and track officials to postpone both races.
Durrence Layne Racing, Oglethorpe Speedway Park and Cochran Motor Speedway officials will compare schedules in the coming days to search for a weekend to reschedule the $2,000-to-win 40-lap Friday night race at OSP and the $4,000-to-win 60-lap Saturday night race at Cochran Motor Speedway.
“With competitors coming from as far away as Mississippi and Indiana, the trip to Savannah, GA and Cochran, GA is one of the longest we ask our teams to make each year,” Durrence Layne Racing Competition Director Adam Stewart said. “With the high percentage of rain forecast for the weekend, we all felt it would be in everyone’s best interest to postpone both races and try to find another weekend in the future.”
Inclement weather has put a big dent in the 2018 Durrence Lane Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season with nine races have been either cancelled or postponed, and only eight races that have been completed. Cochran Motor Speedway has had three Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Series races rained out this season.
The next two races on the 2018 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour schedule are a $2,000-to-win 40-lap race on July 27 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN and a $2,500-to-win 50-lap event on July 28 at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, GA.
