Ionia fairgrounds has a track that floods every spring. But it hasn't been used in years for car racing. I went many years ago. It's an old horse track. While it probably doesn't flood as much at Portsmouth every year the last couple years haven been pretty bad from the heavy snow the past few winter's. Google Ionia fairgrounds flooding l. There's quite a few pics.

Yes nice track surface w nice banking. Rest of place is old and a dump. No sanitation codes in sc i guess. Stands are made of concrete and steps are about 2' high. Pearson and petty and others had there racing roots there. Still enjoy going i just over look a few things

After Cherokee was neutered, Lancaster probably became the best dirt track in SC. Been a long time since I been there though. The last time I went Freddy Smith won in his LA Gear car. If I"m not mistaken, he briefly experimented with a V-6 engine and that was what was in the car that night.

So many great memories at WVMS. Nothing like watching from turn 2 or turn 4 when they woukd just bounce off the walls. The whole atmosphere was one that had to be experienced to understand. But yes, very hard on equipment. And drivers. I believe it was Balzano that had his hand broken in his heat and went on to run the rest of the weekend. Steve Shaver was always fun to watch there as well
