I agree Thursday points night friday night two rounds of heats with passing points. Saturday night should be a another points night but it's not.it's show up points. I think they have that because they have Attendence Bonus'es it actually pays off pretty good.

Last nights feature was some of the best racing we’ve seen at the USA Nats in many years. Hopefully they hit the track prep tonight and tomorrow.

There really isn't any ryme or reason to how or why WOO does what they do. Does Lucas have any race paying 50K that doesn't award points and gives "show-up" points across the field?

So woo drivers can use a provisional if needed make a few laps and pull in and get the same amount of points as a guy that wins the thing... Seems like bull(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) to me. Or miss the race all together and get show up points?

MI Dirt Fan
08-03-2018, 11:27 AM
They aren't getting the same amount of money as the guy winning the thing though.

I don't think you get show up points for missing a race. That's why they are called show up points.

Why even bother having points if you're not going to count one of your biggest races of the year

Saturday is a show up points only night. Woo does not like the passing points format. That's why it will be a show up points only night.

08-03-2018, 12:42 PM

WildBill32
08-03-2018, 12:47 PM
It makes for better racing for the fans. Per Cedar Lake. I-80 does it. And so does the North South. You get to see Double heat races. And the fans love it.

drich24
08-03-2018, 12:56 PM
It has been show-up points for at least the last 4-5 years. Even when they did regular qualifying and heat races.

Hmmmmm..... I did not know that.

TerryM
08-03-2018, 02:03 PM
I didn't know it either. The big races at I-80 and Florence are points races, unless something else has changed that I wasn't aware of. You'd think these guys would prefer racing for points instead of having them evenly distributed. Kind of takes the "racing" part out of the equation. It also makes me lose a little respect for the WOO series. Not that they care what I think. I'm just a fan. Who spends a lot of money and a lot of time to SHOW UP and support these guys. Expecting to see them race hard for positions, money ... and points. Do I get show up money next time I attend a WOO race?

Since the World of Outlaws began sanctioning the event (2010) and when I was involved with the USA Nationals - the Saturday night event has ALWAYS been a non-points night for the World of Outlaws (show up points only). That was at the request of the drivers who ran the series with several of those drivers now on the Lucas Oil series.

The Thursday night show has carried various sanctions in the past including the now defunct WDRL. The World of Outlaws began sanctioning the show in 2013. I BELIEVE they sanctioned that night as a regular points night since 2013 (this was after my affiliation with the event but believe this to be accurate).

Someone asked the question about a 6:30 PM hot lap start time and mentioned in a negative aspect. This start time is intentional for several reasons:

1.) later start time keeps the track in better shape throughout the night versus burning up the track in the hot sun before the heats or qualifying start. Wish more tracks would start later and run an efficient program - it results in better racing and better program.
2.) travel - if you have ever been to Cedar Lake getting there from anywhere south or west of the track is difficult. Freeway traffic is at a stand still with all the people leaving for cabins on Thursday and Friday. Moving back hot laps and start times allows for fans not to miss anything if they are coming to the track from work
3.) Party - again, if you have been to CLS they put on a small party Thursday night, massive fireworks show Friday night, a mega party Friday night and Saturday night they have a lights-out driver intros for the feature event. All of these things depend upon it being dark to be effective. A later start time ensures the sun will be set.

I have been to tracks all over the US - is CLS the most efficient in running a major show, No. That said, they are one of the top five at running a major event and do a great job providing a lot of value-added entertainment that you don't get at most other big events. Judging by the packed grandstands and campground... the fans attending must agree.

If you want to see points racing and points battles go to your weekly dirt track. Wanna see lot's of cars and some of best drivers racing for pretty nice chunk of change then attend a major event. Pretty simple concept huh! Next we'll be Bitchin that the 2 major Eldora races aren't sanctioned by Lucas and it gives ump points

I would rather see a regular show 6000 to win like it was supposed to be. I personally don’t think the track races well enough for passing points
