Chase Junghans Ends WoO Winless Skid with Eriez Triumph
Dirt Million at Mansfield Up Next

Manhattan, Kansas (08/21/18) – Chase Junghans enjoyed sweet redemption on Sunday night in his Shop Quik Convenience Stores #18 Bozard Ford Lincoln/XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Ending a three-year winless skid in World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series competition, Junghans overcame a hard-charging Brandon Sheppard to pick up the $10,000 victory at Eriez Speedway.

“This one’s been coming a long time,” Junghans said. “I’m definitely tickled to death. We’ve been really fast (in 2018), but we just got to time in good (in qualifying). It’s a lot easier when you start up front. We just need to work on timing in and staying up front. Luckily everything lined up tonight.”

The win didn’t come easy though as Junghans had to keep defending WoO Champion, Brandon Sheppard behind him in the closing laps.

“Anytime you see that blue 1 car (Sheppard’s Rocket Chassis house car) behind you, you know it’s gonna be tough to beat him. I used some of those lapped guys as a blocker to try and zig-zag through ‘em, but the bottom (groove) got a little rough and you kind of had to bounce it right and land right to take back off,” Junghans said. “Luckily we had that late caution and my (crew) guys told me where to go. I don’t know if that’s where Sheppy was running or not, but luckily that all worked out and we’re here (as the winner).”

Junghan’s tour of the Northeast with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series found him starting the weekend with an eighth-place run at Delaware’s Georgetown Speedway on Thursday evening. Mother Nature took the win on Friday night at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway, while Junghans battled to a 12th-place finish on Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pennsylvania).

On Sunday night Junghans stopped at Eriez Speedway (Hammett, Pennsylvania), where he wrapped up the four-day swing with the WoO. Starting the night with the the second-fastest time in his qualifying group behind Chris Madden, Chase cruised to a heat race victory. He then received the second-starting position for the 50-lap finale.

Jumping out to an early lead, Junghans held the top spot for the first 36 circuits until Brandon Sheppard slipped by on lap 37. Wrestling back the lead on the next circuit, Chase Junghans held off Sheppard in the closing laps to capture his first win of the season and a $10,000 payday. Sheppard, Chris Madden, Mike Marlar, and Boom Briggs completed the Top-5 finishers in the 50-lap affair.

Following the triumph, Junghan’s crew chief Corey Richman received a haircut that had been three years in the making. Richman had vowed to not get another haircut until the team one again.
