Buddy Rogers Memorial at Tazewell Speedway for Schaeffer’s SNBS/Iron-Man Series/Brucebilt Modifieds Sunday September 2

SOMERSET, KY – August 26, 2018 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV and the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com will co-sanction a special event at Tazewell Speedway on Sunday September 2 as the tenth annual Buddy Rogers Memorial will take place, paying $4,400 to win. In addition, the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will be in competition as well, racing for $1,000 to win.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV and the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com will co-sanction the tenth annual Buddy Rogers Memorial event at Tazewell Speedway on Sunday September 2, with the 44-lap feature event paying $4,400 to the winner. The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will be in action on the racing card at Tazewell Speedway as well on Sunday September 2, competing for $1,000 to win. In addition, the Tazewell Speedway Sportsman Late Models will race for $800 to win, Street Stocks will race for $500 to win, and Four Cylinders race for $500 to win. The pit area will open at 4:00 p.m. with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., while practice laps will begin when the sun does down over the backstretch. Ticket prices at Tazewell Speedway on Sunday September 2 for the tenth annual Buddy Rogers Memorial in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while a pit pass will be $35. As an added treat for the race fans in attendance, there will a free music concert by the Matthew Hickey Band in the main concourse area that is free to anyone with a grandstand ticket or pit pass from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Tazewell Speedway will again partner with Jimmy “Pup” Thomas of Hoosier Tire South and will once again be raising money for the American Cancer Society as part of the Buddy Rogers Memorial event. Drivers, fans, business owners, or anyone else can sponsor a lap in the event for $44 (or more if an individual or business feels the need to do so). A lap board will be kept displaying all the names of individuals or businesses that make donations to this very worthy cause. The Super Late Model portion of the program will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series and the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series. The entry fee will be $100, plus transponder rental for timing/scoring purposes. The Super Late Model tire rule will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 and American Racer 48 and 56. Random tire samples will be taken by the series. Drivers not making the feature event will receive $50 tow money.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will sanction the Open Wheel Modified portion of the program. The entry fee will be $25, plus transponder rental for timing/scoring purposes. The Open Wheel Modified tire rule will be as follows: Hoosier M30 or M60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard. The Hoosier M60 and American Racer Extra Hard is an option on the right rear of the cars and all tires can be siped, but no grooving of any tire is allowed. Random tire samples will be taken by the series. Drivers not making the feature event will receive $25 tow money.

The Buddy Rogers Memorial event is contested in memory of East Tennessee racing legend Buddy Rogers. The first event took place in 2008 and Buddy’s son, Rick Rogers of Knoxville, TN would take the victory. Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, TN would be victorious in the event in 2009, while Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would visit victory lane in the race in 2010. Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN would score the event victory in 2011, while the event would be rained out in 2012. Ogle, Jr. would become the first and only repeat winner of the event to date with his 2013 win, while Mack McCarter of Gatlinsburg, TN would hit paydirt in the 2014 version of the contest. Chad Ogle of Sevierville, TN would pick up the event victory in 2015, while David Payne of Murphy, NC would be victorious in the 2016 contest. Brian Smith of Barbourville, KY would score his biggest career win to date as he would win the 2017 Buddy Rogers Memorial over Steve Smith, Dakotah Knuckles, Carder Miller, and Austin Neely.
