I was thinking 09 was first year.

The only ones in 09 were driven by Ray Cook

I know there were not many, but I didn't think it was that exclusive.

They were still developing the car and he was basically the test pilot. Wouldn't sell one until they were satisfied everything was right. I always applauded them for that rather than come up with something over winter and sell it untested to the masses (cough cough rocket orange front)

I actually own one of those "prototype" chassis, when I bought it I knew it was a Ray Cook car, but nothing else.
When I called Masters and gave them the frame# they said it was an 06 smack.... but I knew the suspension points
had been moved, along with the raised rail and rack plate... When I quizzed him, he clammed up. Said they never changed those cars over at their shop. I talked to Ray, and he said that was the first "Gen X" and they were trying
the new stuff on it. Was the car Bill Elliott drove at Eldora. Car is sitting behind my house rusting away.

If you leave the j bar the same length, yes.

Will my 33/36 axles work on my Smackdown?

Put your 36 in a lathe. Part off the end with the seal groove. Now cut off enough to make the tube 1" shorter when you add the seal groove back. Install both pieces in the bell.

I'll have to fire up the hacksaw and Horrible Freight grinder.

My "wide" car has 32/37 axles. The right side has a steel tube. I'm going to cut that tube down to fit my 33" left side axle. Going to measure up the two sets of steel birdcages I have... one pair is stock vintage MB the other set of unknown history.

The Wide car also has a Winters mag QC in it that i think I will use in my smackdown. I have another Frankenstein QC I bought in pieces. Has a new spool, a Frankland aluminum center and Winters bells... that may go back in the wide chassis so I can move that car around.

Right now I'm trying to organize my smaller shop space since I gave my son 500 sq. ft. of my floor space to build a wood shop. Tired of sawdust in my parts stash.
