Southern All Stars B J Parker Memorial Talladega Short Track Oct 13th
FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by MaxFab will make its third stop of the season Saturday night for the annual NASCAR Weekend B J Parker Memorial that is 42 laps and pays $4,200 to win for the Southern All Star super late models.
Parker was the man who started the Southern All Stars back in 1983 that featured dirt late models in the early days when there were no series around except for the NDRA. The concept was to give the average Saturday night racer a chances to travel and run for a larger purse which still holds true today. Parker also had other series on dirt racing throughout out his lifetime with the 9:1 Topless Bandit, Top Track Challenge series and the Southern Thunder Tour.
Parker was also involved in the asphalt side of racing as he was promoter at Midfield Speedway, Sayre Speedway and Birmingham Int’l Raceway. Parker along with Ben Atkinson several asphalt tours as well the Southern All Stars Asphalt Series which featured super late models, pro late models and trucks.
Parker passed away from male breast cancer in 2011 and today the Southern All Stars is in its 35th year of racing and the race at Talladega Short Track Saturday night will be the 725th race of the series.
Jay Scott of Fayetteville, TN., will only have to start the main event Saturday night to clinch the series title and become the 23rd series champion and the second to win the title and Cruise with the Champions/Dirtondirt.com rookie title in the same. Mark Dodson of Caledonia, MS., currently second in series points will be in action as well as Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN., Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL., Dillon Tidmore of Gadsden, AL., as well as Eric Granger, J T Seawright, Tim Roszell, Terry Smith, Dallas Cooper Josh Adkins, plus many more drivers from across the region.
