MUD MAESTRO
12-20-2018, 06:02 PM
Christmas Greetings Magic......Little story for you. Night one at the Knoxville LM Nationals. Sitting in a skybox with a couple of LM HOFamers and other LM junkies, the talk turns to who will win night one. Being the astute LM affectionado that i am, I take the 91. Nothing but blank stares filled the skybox. I took one heck of a razzing for picking someone the boy's discarded as a fluke. Well, we all know the 91 won and i was vindicated. That night I was anointed a true Mud Maestro lol....... Prediction Look for the 91 {Tyler Erb) to move up from #9 on your top 150 list next year.

Yes greetings to you too my ol' friend, and I totally agree, you were very astute to pick Tyler that night, he's come a long way this season, he's a true talent in DLM and I look for him to continue his success in 2019, and yes, I concur, he should no doubt move up next year from number #9 as Ricky Weiss did this year to number #6. It's always good to see good young talent break through in DLM as Devin has this year to number #10. I believe our favorite sport will be in good hands for years to come ( young talent wise ) and if we can get through all the rainouts from this year and have a drier season in 2019. I lost count at 107 this season as far as rainouts and I'm sure there were alot more. Take care of yourself and stay committed to the sport we both care about. Thanks !

Oh, and one more thing Maestro, the guy I'm keeping my eye in '19 is a young driver named Cade Dillard. I like his style and I believe he'll be a force this upcoming year. Just spitballin' here :), but he's my choice for the next up and coming competitive driver !

Good stuff Sir, thank you very much. A smart guy I know once told me “personalities will lie to you, numbers never do”. Great insight to be derived from your stats.

You got it kazual, great insight and a love of a sport that certain factions have tried to kill off for years, but as long as fans who have their favorite drivers still come to the events and put down their hard earned dollars it will continue to flourish if the weather cooperates that is. I continue to marvel at all the young drivers who continue to plow there way through to success in DLM racing which to me is healthy as all hell just like being a high round draft choice in the NFL. As long as these young men and a few beautiful ladies continue to work hard and learn the intricacies of our sport the skies the limit.

And Bobby was merely a few laps away from another 250,000 in two other races...I counted 12-13 races Pierce had mechanical failure more than a few of those while leading...I know who Id want in my car in a big race...

12-20-2018, 09:10 PM
I agree with ya Illtsate32, young Pierce reminds me so much of my two all time favorite drivers ( Jeff Purvis ) in dirt late model racing and ( Tim Richmond ) on the national level. Both of those guys had the aggressiveness and willingness to get their cars to the front no matter what. When I watch Pierce I see a great deal of my two favorite drivers in him. When he's on, he can put his ride anyway he wants and at full throttle. He's going to be one of the very best in DLM racing for years to come

Thanks Magic for the awesome information.

Now can you give me some details on Cade Dillard Im not real familiar with the name and if you say watch him then i will definitely start watching. ANy other names that yall can throw out to look out for im all ears

Cade has had some great runs in the usmts mods..and if I recall he has ran really stout in a few big lm races. Id have to see some more film before I form an opinion but I love scouting talent and I totally respect your assessment Montana so I will be keeping an eye on him. My guy im predicting is Weiss, of course hes not a big secret he ran extremely well against the best of the best. With the help of Sweet/Bloom I look for big things out of him. My 2nd up and comer is Chase Junghans, he was starting to blossom at the end of the year with some strong runs, hes been running against top notch competition and its staring to pay dividends. I look for Chase to win 3-4 tour races this year and be potential top 5...

haha, well zero, I'm like Rooster Cogburn, I'm not dead yet pilgrim, I hope to do this a little while longer, and thanks, numbers are special to me since I left college in the 70's and in my job as an engineer.

and cowboy, I saw Cade win a few races this year in my travels and I really liked the way he came through the field to win and he comes from a modified background, but he's got the fire that I like when it comes to ability, he's the real deal, I look for big things from him

as for good young up and coming drivers I like, Cade, Hudson, Max Blair, Tanner English, Kyle Hardy, Mike Maresca, Dylan Yoder, Michael Norris, and most defintely Booper Bare's little one Tyler: now that young man is gonna' be a superstar someday ! Mark my words :)

and yeah 32, I had Ricky Weiss on my radar five yrs ago seeing a few Wissota races on my schedule, he's finally made it with some great help and he deserves it, nice bright future for him as well, and proud of his wins this year.

Watched Dillard a good bit, mostly in mods, and he’s a calm and cool kid. Curious if he stays with MB Customs, it served him well with open mods but best of my knowledge he would be a loner with that brand on a national LM series. Stormy Scott will run Lucas and Dillard with WOO, its a challenging transition from mods to touring LM series, ask Jason Hughes. It’s be great if Weiss and Dillard would last out the season. Weiss from Canada and Dillard from west of the Red River Louisiana. Not currently late model strongholds but maybe a chance to add some fans from those regions.

Kazual... do you know how much, if at all, Hughes ever drove a LM before running the LOLMS that year? Seem to think he just jumped in and got thrown to the wolves.

Seen Dillard at a few USMTS events and he is legit in a mod. Was pretty surprised how well it carried over to LMs as well. Guy can wheel and have no doubt he will put up a good challenge on Weiss for ROY.

Thanks for the stats magic! I like to pick a Driver of the Year every year. The guy I think was had the best year. I was torn between Brandon Sheppard and Jonathan Davenport this year. I leaned more towards BShep and awarded him but seeing your figures confirmed my decision to go with BShep. Thanks again!

I don’t recall exactly how much time Jason had in a late model prior to his rookie season in LOLMDS but don’t think it was much.

Hey Magic,

Glad to see you doing your thing on 4m again. As always, interesting, yet useful numbers breaking down what I thought was a wide open season in SLM racing.

As for a kid to watch, how about Devin Gilpin. I believe this guy is on the verge of breaking out. Obviously, another successful Mod grad that's been tweaking his craft for a couple seasons in LMs. Eldora SLM track champ in 18 and ran well at The World. Got a hunch he's gonna show out next season.

Go 18!!

Yes, good to hear from you too again edavis, and yes, the good 'ol days are gone on here, and I don't blame ya' for not coming on so much, too much dammed bickering is correct, those who type their garbage on here just want to start BS to see who they can pi$$ off I presume. But that's the moderators job to eliminate such BS, they should be doing there job. But no matter, as long as there's posts on here that can provide a healthy discussion about our favorite sport, we can overcome these troublemakers.

And yes slydejob, I had forgotten about Devin, and yeah, he's more than got the talent, I liked some of his interviews in those wins he had a year or two back. He's got a flair about him, good interviewer in the class of TMac, and his talent is top notch, there's no denying that, but the more younger drivers this sport has, the better it will be for the future, that's very apparent.

I can't help but point out that thru all the numbers, Rusty schlenk, top 25! What that means totally I'm uncertain cause stats can be done anyway you want, but with this it seems he's Ill-regarded as a driver and doing great things. That simply is my problem with #'s

My God man, what do you want ?? In all the years I've been on here 20plus I read these comments about drivers getting no respect and I have to laugh. Schlenk is a dammed good driver and deserved the ranking he earned at # 18 and I think he gets a ton of respect from drivers AND fans, so that argument doesn't wash with me anymore; and I beg to differ with you on that comment of yours about stats being done anyway a person wants; that's pure bull$hit 'cause when I do my stats I take into account EVERY driver, not just Rusty Schlenk or Scott Bloomquist, but everyone of them because I'm a true fan of ALL drivers, there is not ONE I dislike. So you can continue to mistrust numbers if u like, but you'll be missing out on information that tells a story eventually and makes for interesting reading and studying instead of some of the crap I see on here on a weekly basis. And hell, I'll even let all you guys copy my work so that you'll have something to read while you're on your own personal throne :)
