Henderson Motorsports Tabs David Breazeale for Southern All Star Run
Leon Henderson to Sit Out Next Three Months After Injury
Laurel, Mississippi (02/26/19) – Leon Henderson was looking forward to jumping back behind the wheel of his L&D Trucking No. 10 Longhorn Chassis by Weaver/ Cornett Thunder Racing Engine Super Late Model this season. However, life has a way of throwing curveballs, and such was the case for the 49-year-old Henderson.
“I had planned to get back in the driver’s seat on a full-time basis this season and compete on the full Southern All Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series schedule,” Henderson revealed. “However, a few weeks ago I was throwing a chain across one of our work trailers, and I felt a sharp pain in my arm. After consulting with the doctor, I learned that I had a distal bicep, tendon rupture and that surgery would be necessary.”
Henderson underwent surgery on Wednesday, February 20. His recovery will span the next 12 weeks. With him sidelined from the driver’s seat he reached out to a familiar friend to take over the team’s driving duties.
“David Breazeale and I go way back, and he’s always been a great friend to us,” Henderson said. “We’ve won several races with Breazeale in the driver’s seat, so it seemed like a natural fit to see if he’d like to drive for us this season.”
The 42-year-old Breazeale was the 2018 World of Outlaws (WoO) Rookie of the Year but has yet to race this season as he’s been busy with his own business endeavors. The call from Henderson and the opportunity to run the full Southern All Star schedule was a perfect fit for Breazeale.
“I’ve always enjoyed racing with the Henderson family,” said Breazeale, who last piloted an entry for Henderson Motorsports in 2016 when he won the $15,000 top prize in the Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park. “I had hoped to get back on the road with the Outlaws this year, but just had too many things happening around home. Hopefully, I can get back out there in the next year or so, but this year we are focused on going out and winning the Southern All Star championship.”
The 2019 SAS campaign opens this Sunday, March 3 at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) with the $12,000-to-win, March Madness event. Breazeale will be piloting the team’s familiar No. 10 Super Late Model.
