Old man winter be there

3 years ago me a my friend sat in 28 degree weather about 18 row up behind the flag stand. Racing was great but darn was it cold that night at LaSalle

t4g2
03-03-2019, 01:01 PM
Yes it was pretty cold that night. Hope weather is alright an I really hope the track has their stuff straighten out. The last 3 races was rough esp the last one. This is their last chance with my group of 20. If it's bad like the last few have been then we will NOT be back.

Hopefully it warms up by then, but they do have a back-up date this year, so that's good.

I would bank on that backup date.

Snow on the ground, single digit temps and below zero wind chills today.

They're gonna need a solid stretch of days above freezing for the ground to thaw.

Does Hoosier make a snow tire???

We went to this event last year and it was plenty brisk. Luckily we had seats in one of the suites. Great racing both nights, looking forward to this show again later this month. The Friday night A-main was decided in the last 100' of the race. One of the better late model shows we saw all of last season.

The weather can turn around in a big hurry this time of year. It's somewhat premature to write this event off 3 1/2 weeks in advance.

If you have rented a suite, make sure someone in your group brings a small fan to move air across the window. Without it, you can not keep the window defrosted.

I'm seeing high 40's low 30's forcasted for 2 weeks out. Track should be fine as long as rain stays out of the picture. That would be my major concern as their is a lot of precipitation forcasted between now and then. I'll plan on it being cold as I haven't experienced warm weather at this event for quite some time. The event name should give one some kind of idea as to what the weather should be. Dress warm for this one.

Weather in Illinois can be 20 one day and 70 the next so, maybe we can get lucky for a change...

kidrock

Do you want tracks to stay open or not? The price is going to have to go up because, there is just not the fan base there once was. Maybe now some will feel what some drivers and owners are feeling that the cost of racing keeps going up.

WisWildManFan
03-06-2019, 08:07 AM
Maybe the fan base is smaller because the prices went up? The problem with your theory is that there will always be another rich kid to fill the gap when drivers and owners get out of the sport but when fans quit going cuz of rising ticket prices they will not be replaced.

Fan base has been in decline way before prices have started going up. I will say it's a double edge sword for tracks to get to a happy medium. No I'm not a believer in more rich kids filling the seats. More and more are going to get out of the sport because of cost. Its already happening.

Very good advice. We had never been in a suite before last years' Thaw Brawl and someone had the presence of mind to bring a fan and a small space heater. Without the fan we'd have had to go outside due to the windows fogging over.

I don't always used driver websites as you just stated. A lot of times their not updated. These came from Izzo, AELMT, & a few strait the drivers them selves. I asked if they could confirm any on twitter and facebook. Rich Bell lives right of the street from LaSalle in Sheffield, IL & Scott Schmitt lives about 10 feet away in Tonica, IL.

Think I saw where it cost 25 for Friday, maybe I looked at it wrong though. We need to support dirt track racing when possible. Just my opinion. Well I see now on the new article that it is 30 for Friday so I stand corrected. We still need to try and support our local tracks though as much as we can.

That was a typo. It's corrected.
Races at LaSalle have always been good. Yes sometimes it's rough. Like most tracks you get that from time to time; But I've seen a lot of great races there. It wouldn't surprise me to see a large field of cars in all four classes if the weather forecast is good for both days.

The July 3rd, 4th, & 5th, (if you wanted a 4th of July road trip), LaSalle-Macon-Farmer City. That's one of the best 3 race swing the tour has. All 3 will start out on a fast track if history serves.

Please. The Weather Channel website said 50% for Friday & 40% for Saturday.

Weather.gov says 80% Friday an snow saturday an I have to know just in case as I don't get a lot of time off of work as I work 50/60 hour weeks. An this is LaSalle last chance to run an efficient show otherwise my group won't be back. Last few races choi cho drag out show an ran out of concessions midway through time trials. Water soda popcorn hotdogs all gone none left.

THAW BRAWL UPDATE

LaSalle, IL (Wednesday, March 27, 2019) - The 8th Annual Thaw Brawl Presented by Hoker Trucking from LaSalle Speedway schedule of events has been changed in light of the weekend weather forecast. LaSalle Speedway and American Ethanol Late Model Tour (AELMT) and the American Ethanol Modified Tour (AEMODT) officials are continuing preparation for this wwekend's highly anticipated event.

As part of the change, the weekends events are being pushed back on day, with start times and gate times changing as well. Officials are now planning on holding an Open Practice session on Friday night. With that, the first race night of the weekend will be Saturday, March 30th. Gates and draw will open at 11:00a.m. Central Time. From there, Hot Laps and Qualifying will begin at 1:00p.m., with the first American Ethanol Green Flag of the afternoon at 3:00p.m. The American Ethanol Late Model tour will still race for 50-laps and $5,000 to win as part of the now Saturday program, alongside the AEmods, IMCA Modifieds, & IMCA SportMods.

Sunday (the originally scheduled rain date) will also be an afternoon event. With Pit Gates and the draw opening at 11:00a.m.. Hot Laps and Qualifying at 1:00p.m., and the first race of the day at 3:00p.m. The now Sunday afternoon show will still showcase a $15,000 payday for the AELMT, with the AEmods, IMCA Modifieds, and IMCA SportMods.

The official schedule change comes as a result of improving weather forecast, reducing the significance of rain - however, the continued chance for cold temperatures prompted the earlier start times.
