Love that photo from 1990. That was my first World 100, held in mid-October after some rainouts. Runner-up Tom Helfrich was very complimentary to Scott after the race.

The #18 Wendy’s car actually looks pretty good for being plain and red.

How is it possible that a car that is at least 25 years old has the same deck as the "modern day wedge cars" that have recently caused the cost of racing to sky rocket? There are some that need to look at history a little closer.

The difference is todays cars are using suspenion travel to hike the rear end and left rear of the body way up in the air and also using it to steer the rear end so the car doesn't become way too tight with the rear end being hooked so tight from the additional grip. In essences the engineers have worked around the restrictions of rear deck height. That's the problem with rules. They just create an incentive for the engineers to find a way to work around them. "killing the wedge car" accomplished nothing. Todays cars are far more expensive than the wedge cars were. Things like traction control, carbon carbon brake rotors, carbon fiber drive shafts, kevlar tire inserts and undetectable tire treatment formulas, cost more than a little bit of lexan and aluminum did and are much more difficult to detect and enforce.

Maybe a stretch but does anyone know details about the Wendey’s sponsorship? I’ve always been intrigued by that deal as it’s the only time I recall Scott not running black for obvious reasons. He didn’t seem to run it long so I was curious as to if was for a few races, months, or a year. Also, any corporate connections (which would have been HUGE back then) or local franchise connection. Would maybe thought as successful as Scott was the deal would have lasted longer.

So true. This has been the design for many years. At least on the surface, for the most part.

There is a great Album of Scott's cars thru the years on the National Dirt Late Model HoF Facebook page. Actually alot of good photos from inducted drivers on there.

What's the story of him going to the 0 and dumping the 18. ? Is that when the started to put the weight on ? I figure the xtra 100 pds must be balancing the car better.
