been trying to visit a new track or two every year here lately. Macon has probably been my favorite. Went there last year for the Lucas race. Crazy how small the place is and amongst houses, but great racing. Definitely a must visit track if you've never been.

This race and The Herald & Review 100 are among the best dirt late model events in Illinois.

Mighty Macon doesn't get the credit it deserves for the quality and excitement of the late model racing that is held there.

The community of Macon, Illinois is 4 square in support of the track and it shows. If I was only able to attend 2 late model events a year the two 100 lapper's at Macon would be in the top 5 I would pick from.

Best place to sit?? Plenty of great seats front and back stretch side. Victory lane is done on the front stretch so if you want to see those festivities post race that would be the place to go.

Best place to sit??

dc, you'll want to be as close to the middle of the straightaway on either the front or backstretch. As the person posting for Track Enterprises said the victory lane festivities obviously take place on the front stretch. Height really doesn't matter all that much but like any other race track you'll want to be as high has possible.

Try a pork chop or rib eye sandwich. They are very good.

We might run into you. Have fun, it's a great event.

Late Models usually run last. HOWEVER... Bob runs a very efficient program and they're usually done before 10:00.

Anyone know order of events? It's been our experience that the folks as Mighty Macon are somewhat reluctant to give an answer as to the order of the A-main's. Why? Good question.

We go to Mighty Macon at least 4 or 5 times a year for the past 12 to 15 years so we have a pretty good handle on how things go there. Ol' Sarge is highly averse to running the headliner A-main first or second. Sometimes it works out just fine, other times..............well, not so much. Ol' Bob will run them off pretty quickly but he has no control over excessive yellow's, etc., during the support class races. It's just the way it is at Macon but the risk is worth the rewards, especially if the track doesn't rubber up and lock down.

Anyone know order of events? In the past it has been BMods Modifieds Late Models and will probably be that as well. Whatever the order, we will work to ensure this show is ran in a timely manner so that everyone can either go pitside and see the drivers or are able to make the journey to home or whatever their next destination is in a timely manner.

As of Wednesday morning I’m seeing beautiful Friday, rain during morning and afternoon Saturday, Saturday evening and night just cloudy, Sunday beautiful. Now my question is being a Macon newbie, will the track be ready and sealed by Friday night before rain starts? And how much rain can it take during the day and still get the show in at night?

Track can usually take a pretty good beating, pits not so much. If it was up to Sarge he'd do everything he could to get the show in (see last year's SN race), since Lucas is calling the shots I believe you'll see an early decision. Unfortunate it's one of the events we look forward to all year. 8 miles down the road from the house.

Lucas Oil Late Models Set For Lucas Oil 100 Saturday Night At Macon Speedway (Macon, IL) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series hits the road again this weekend, returning to the “Land of Lincoln” for a $12,000-to-win event on Saturday night at Macon Speedway. The nation’s top dirt late model drivers are expected to challenge a strong field of local and regional standouts. The 1/5-mile bullring is accustomed to some of the most thrilling, door-to-door racing action of the season. The event will feature Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, and B-Mains, highlighted by a 100-lap, $12,000-to-win main event. The defending National Champion, Jonathan Davenport continues to set the pace in the current Lucas Oil championship chase, 235-points ahead of four-time National Champion, Earl Pearson Jr. Tyler Erb is third, followed by Devin Moran and Josh Richards rounding out the top five in championship standings. The event will be the sixth for the series at Macon Speedway. Former winners include: Bobby Pierce (2014), Jimmy Owens (2015), Bobby Pierce (2016), Josh Richards (2017), and Bobby Pierce (2018). Two other divisions will be in action racing for extra prize money, including the BillingsleyRewards.com DIRTcar Modifieds. The class has had two exciting nights of racing and has a tie for the current point lead. Rodney Standerfer, of Summerfield, IL, was the winner on opening night at the track, exchanging the lead several times with Tommy Sheppard, Jr. from New Berlin, IL. On the second night, it was Sheppard taking the lead early and claiming the victory over Standerfer. The two are tied at 118 points each, while last year’s Pro Late Model champion, Guy Taylor is third, Jared Thomas is fourth, and Tim Han(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) is fifth. The division will be racing for a little extra money this week in an event paying $1,000 to win and $100 to start. In two weeks of racing, it’s been all Tim Han(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) in the Neal Tire & Auto Pro Modified division. The former national champion of the class has won both features, though competition has kept him honest so far. Just behind him in the standings is Decatur, IL driver, Nick Justice. Justice followed him closely across the line in the season opener and had a decent run on the second night. Chad Evans, Tim Riech, and Brady Lynch round out the top five in standings. Pit gates open this Saturday night at 3:00 with grandstand gates swinging open at 4:00. Hotlaps will begin at 6:00 with racing taking the green at 7:00 PM. Grandstand admission is $30 for adults and $5 for kids 11 and under. For more information on the event, visit www.maconracing.com. Lucas Oil Late Model Doubleheader Weekend Canceled (Macon, IL) - Ongoing rain in the days leading up to Friday’s event at Tri-City Speedway and an abysmal forecast for Saturday’s event at Macon Speedway have forced the cancellation of this weekend’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Illinois events. The action at Macon Speedway was canceled for this Saturday due to predictions for inclement weather. The forecast calls for a 90% chance of rain, high winds, and cold temperatures. More information on a possible reschedule date will be coming at a later time. The next event for Macon Speedway is coming up on Saturday, May 4 with seven divisions of racing action plus CEFCU Kid's Club and Kids Bike Races. For more information, visit www.maconracing.com.
