The Gas Man, aka Richard Griffin from Silver Dollar, Mew Mexica was recently inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa. Gas Man was a virtual lock to go in The Hall, it was only a matter of when! I had the honor of watching Gas Man race at Eldora, Granite City, Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona, Perris Auto Speedway and at The Chili Bowl.
Gas Man epitomized the term "bad ass" in just about every way. He was fearless, calculated, talented beyond belief and smart all at the same time, which is a rare and nearly unbeatable combination. Gas Man was a legend of sprint car racing with over 50 wins in CRA and later in SCRA (California Racing Association/Sprint Car Racing Association Sprint Car) competition and is a 5 time SCRA Champion.
Congratulations Richard Griffin!! As you might tell he was one of my all time favorite sprint car drivers.
