Ayers Tops Cook in Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series Thriller at I-75 Raceway

By Michael Despain

SWEETWATER, TENNESSEE- (June 15, 2019) – The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would conclude the weekend of racing action with a trip to the Kyle Family promoted I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN and Ryan Ayers of Concord, NC would follow-up his 2018 victory at I-75 in a thrilling matter by edging Taylor Cook at the finish of the race to claim the victory and $1,500 payday.

The victory for Ayers would be his second career Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series victory and would also see him become the third different tour winner in the four events contested so far this season. The winning mount driven by Ayers is a Lethal Chassis powered by a Ramey Race Engine and features sponsorship from Gary’s Golf Carts, Max Ant Batteries, Brown and Miller Racing Soluntions, Lethal Chassis, Ramey Race Engines, Pack Racing Springs, and Strange Oval.

Taylor Cook would take the early race lead in the 25-lap event that would be plagued by five cautions over the first five laps of the race. Cook would motor away to a comfortable lead on each restart of the race, that would be slowed three more times until the final caution of the race waved on lap fourteen when Jesse Rupe and Clayton Miller would tangle in turn three while battling for the fifth position. The final restart of the race would see Ayers stay within striking distance of Cook and when Cook encountered the rear of the field and began to start lapping slower cars, Ayers would close right up on Cook on lap twenty-three, with the pair racing side-by-side for the lead on that circuit. Ayers would have a slight lead as the lead duo received the white flag, as the side-by-side battle for the lead continued around the track on the final lap in lapped traffic. Cook would make one final effort exiting turn four, by Ayers would nip Cook at the finish by 0.119 seconds. Trailing Ayers and Cook at the finish to complete the top five finishers would be Matthew Hopper, Rick Standridge, and Amos Bunch. The remainder of the top ten in the finishing order would be Wayne James, Jesse Rupe, Billy Palmer, Ricky Tinch, and Blake Brown.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series next event will be Saturday June 29 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, paying $2,000 to win.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would like to thank the following sponsors and marketing partners for their continued support: American Racer Tires, Brucebilt Performance, Custom Suspensions, Schaeffer’s Oil, VP Race Fuels, and Wiles Driveshafts.
