ADAIRSVILLE, GA – A tight point battle will highlight Week 16 competition for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division this weekend. There are five races on the Week 16 schedule of events with one race on Friday night, and Saturday night will feature a $1,000-to-win race. The lone Friday night race will be held at Moulton Speedway in Danville, AL.

Tennessee National Raceway in Hohenwald, TN will present a $1,000-to-win race for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division. Other Saturday night events are scheduled for Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL is the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division point leader by nine points over the defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN. Riddle has 580 points after seven wins and 16 top five finishes in 16 events over 12 weeks of racing.

Gillespie has 571 points after five wins, 13 top five finishes, and 14 top ten finishes in 15 races over 12 weeks of competition. Both Riddle and Gillespie have two more weeks to earn full points before they hit the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

David Nichols of Hodges, AL is third in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings, and Ron Bailey of Meridianville, AL is fourth. Seth Johnston of Santa Fe, TN rounds out the top five of the standings. Nichols, Bailey and Johnston also have two more weeks to earn full points.
