ADAIRSVILLE, GA Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 17 for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division will see ten races over two nights in five different states. Due to several rainouts this season, drivers are still trying to reach the 14-week mark of their seasons. The top three drivers in the National point standings have competed for 12 weeks.
Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.
A drivers best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.
The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a $10,000 point fund check and a trophy.
Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 17 competition for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division begins on Friday night with the $1,000-to-win Back The Blue Sheriff Tommy Hickerson Memorial Race. Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will also present the Late Models in Friday night.
There will be three $1,000-to-win races on Saturday night for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division. Southern Raceway in Milton, FL will have the $1,000-to-win Bobbie Jean Joiner Memorial Race. Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will pay $1,000-to-win to the Late Models on Saturday night.
Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will have the $1,000-to-win Mississippi State Championship Race on Saturday night for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division. Other Saturday night Week 17 Late Model races will be held at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN will have Double Features on Saturday night for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division. The first Feature Race will be a Week 15 Make-Up Race, and the second Feature Race will be the regularly scheduled Week 17 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series event.
Cole Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS is the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point leader going into Week 17 competition. Cameron has a two point leader over Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS. Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is three points behind Russell in the third spot. Cameron, Russell and Scarbrough still have two more weeks to earn full points before reaching the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.
Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL is fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings, 25 points behind Scarbrough, and Jason Jarrell of Hattiesburg, MS is fourth, six-points behind Mitchell. Both Mitchell and Jarrell have three more weeks to earn full points.
Mitchell and Jarrell are also first and second respectively on the Weekly Point Average (WPA) List. Among the Top 20 drivers in the standings with eight or more weeks of racing, Mitchell has a 48.36 out of a possible 50. Jarrell has a WPA at 47.82 and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is third at 47.36. Lee is seventh in the National Late Model standings, and has a series-leading six wins.
Cameron has the fourth highest WPA at 46.83, and Russell has the fifth highest WPA at 46.67 among the Top 20 drivers with eight or more weeks of competition in the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division.
