ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The battle for the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division Weekly Racing Series National Championship rolls into Week 17 action this Friday night and Saturday night. There will be seven races on the schedule of events with one race on Friday night and six races on Saturday night.

Several rainouts have left drivers with at least two more weeks to earn full points, so the championship battle is still wide open. The top 12 drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division have anywhere from 10 to 12 weeks of racing completed.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS will host the lone Friday night event for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division. Saturday night races will be held at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National standings with 565 points. Morgen Lambert of Booneville, MS is second with 532 points. Both Mitchell and Lambert have two more weeks to earn full points. Cruz Wallace of Tuscumbia, AL is third with 515 points and three more weeks to earn full points.

Just three points separate third, fourth and fifth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman National point standings. Victoria Purcell of Bremen, AL is fourth in the standings with 513 points and two more weeks to earn full points. Brian Murray of Russellville, AL is fifth with 512 points and two more weeks to earn full points.

Blake Ray of Russellville, AL is sixth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings with 473 points, but with fourth more weeks to earn full points, he has the highest Weekly Point Average at 47.30 out of a possible 50 among the top 12 drivers in National points. Mitchell has the second highest WPA at 47.08, and Wallace has the third highest WPA at 46.82.
