Dennis Erb, Jr. Earns Pair of Top Tens at I-80 in Silver Dollar Nationals Weekend
(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) Next up on the racing calendar for the #28 team was a trip west to the Cornhusker State, as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned the annual running of the 'Silver Dollar Nationals' from July 18-20 at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska. On Thursday evening in the $12,000 to win 'Malvern Bank Go 50,' Dennis Erb, Jr. qualified twelfth fastest in Group B during time trials prior to grabbing the fourth and final transfer spot through his stacked heat race. After starting the 50-lap weekend lid lifter from the outside of the eighth row, Dennis was able to steer past seven competitors on his way to a solid ninth place effort.
In Friday's double set of qualifying heat races, Dennis placed sixth in his first heat race of the night, while he finished fourth in his final prelim. The Carpentersville, Illinois ace then ran third in Saturday's consolation event to earn the rights to the outside of the twelfth row for the start of the 'Silver Dollar Nationals,' which boasted a whopping $53,000 payday. During the course of the 80-lap crown jewel extravaganza, Dennis once again moved forward and jumped inside of the top ten to eventually wind up tenth in the final finishing order. Dennis Erb Racing will rejoin the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series tour on Wednesday, July 24 in the Hawkeye State of Iowa. A $10,000 top prize is on the line tomorrow night at Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa. On Thursday, July 25, the action will quickly shift to Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois where the completion of the rain-postponed DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature will take place. The final 24 circuits of the $5,000 to win contest will be held at Lincoln in a race where Dennis started from the inside of the fifth row.
The busy week will then conclude on July 26-27 at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois with the 30th edition of the ‘Prairie Dirt Classic.’ Things will kick off at FALS on Friday with World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series qualifying and four $2,500 to win, 25-lap feature events. The consolation races, the $2,000 to win ‘Prairie Dirt Shootout’ for non-qualifiers, and the 100-lap headliner will then take center stage on Saturday evening. The winner of the ‘Prairie Dirt Classic’ will receive a hefty $30,000 winner’s check. Dennis has earned one PDC title during his career back in 2004 and will come into the weekend sixth in the latest version of the WOOLMS point standings.
