Jimmy Mars Steers to Shawano Podium; Eyes Third Career USA Nationals Title!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team started a hectic week in their home state of Wisconsin with a pair of mid-week stops to Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin and Shawano Speedway in Shawano, Wisconsin on July 29-30. On Monday night at Plymouth in a $10,000 to win World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series special, Jimmy Mars placed third in his heat race during preliminary action, but unfortunately retired with mechanical issues after 35 circuits in the 50-lapper to wind up sixteenth in line at the pay window.

In a similar show on Tuesday evening at the sprawling Shawano oval, Jimmy advanced to third in his heat race, started ninth on the grid in the 40-lap 'Sundrop Shootout,' and blasted past six competitors during the caution-free affair to land on the podium in third behind only victor Shane Clanton and runner-up Brandon Sheppard! Complete results from these two races can be viewed by clicking on www.woolms.com.

Next up on the racing calendar is one of Jimmy’s most anticipated events of the season – the 32nd Annual ‘USA Nationals’ at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series will once again preside over the crown jewel program, which kicks off later tonight, August 1 with a $6,000 to win preliminary throwdown. On Friday night at CLS, double heat races and a dash will set the lineup for Saturday’s action, which features the consolation races, last chance qualifier, and the 100-lap headliner. The winner of the ‘USA Nationals’ will once again receive a whopping $50,000 payday and the coveted wooden eagle trophy.

Jimmy, who is the lone home-state winner of the ‘USA Nationals,’ took home the top prize back in 1996 ($29,000) and 2009 ($50,000). The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace will also enter the NASCAR Late Model portion of the big weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway. A complete show of heat races, B-Mains, and a $2,500 to win main event will be on the undercard on both Friday and Saturday at the 3/8-mile oval.
