ADAIRSVILLE, GA – A tight battle for the $10,000 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National Championship goes into Week 19 of the 2019 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season with eight points separating the top four drivers in the National point standings. Week 19 will see 11 races in six different states this Friday night and Saturday night.

The action begins on Friday night with a pair of Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division races at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, and a special Friday night Week 16 Make-Up Race at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. This race will come into play for drivers fifth on back in the National point standings.

The highlighted race on Saturday night will be the $1,000-to-win Jerry Goodwin Challenge Race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. North Alabama Speedway will return to action on Saturday night for a Week 19 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division Race.

Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA, Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will present Saturday night Late Model races. Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS will host a Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division race on Saturday night co-sanctioned with the NCRA.

Jason Jarrell of Hattiesburg, MS leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 668 points. Jarrell will be trying to net on a 45 in Week 19 competition. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is one point back in the second spot with a best 14-week total of 667 points. Lee will be trying to net on a 40.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is third in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 666 points, and he will be trying to net on a 43. Cole Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS is fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division standings with a best 14-week total of 660 points, and he will be trying to net on a 41.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy, with the National Champion pocketing $10,000.

Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL is fifth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with 631 points and one more week to earn full points. Mitchell’s home track is North Alabama Speedway, so he will more than likely reach the 14-week mark of his season on Friday night in the Week 16 Make-Up Race, and then start netting points on Saturday night in the Week 19 race.

Jarrell, Lee, Scarbrough, and Cameron all have top five finishes in Week 16 as a part of their respective best 14-week totals. Five of the six drivers in the fifth through tenth spots in the current Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division can earn points in both the Week 16 and Week 19 events.

The five drivers that have a blank slate for Week 16 points are Mitchell, Matthew Brocato of Muscle Shoals, AL, Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS, Ben Brocato of Muscle Shoals, AL, and Jason Markewitz of Killen, AL. Joey Pilgrim of Gulfport, MS, who is ninth in the standings, has a fourth-place finish in Week 16.
