ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The stretch drive for the $10,000 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National Championship is underway, as there are now eight weeks to go in the 2019 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season. At the completion of Week 19 competition, the Top 10 drivers in the National point standings have all reached the 14-week mark, and there is a new point leader.

Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL used his final week to earn full points to score a 46-point fifth-place finish in the Week 16 Make-Up Race on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Mitchell then returned to North Alabama Speedway on Saturday night and took a 48-point third-place finish to net on a 45 and take over the top spot in the National standings with a 14-week total of 680 points.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS traveled to Southern Raceway in Milton, FL where he drove the Billy Riels Racing Special to his seventh Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the season. The General netted on a 40 to add ten points to his best 14-week total of 677 and stay in the second point in the National standings, three points behind Mitchell.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS stayed in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division championship battle with a third-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. Scarbrough was able to net on a 43 to gain five points, and bring his best 14-week total to 671 points to hold the third spot in the National standings.

Hattiesburg, MS drivers Jason Jarrell and Cole Cameron hold the fourth and fifth spots respectively in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings. Jarrell has 668 points, and Cameron has 660 points. Jarrell and Cameron did not compete in Week 19 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series action.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy, with the National Champion pocketing $10,000.
