ADAIRSVILLE, GA Week 20 of the 27-week Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season saw the top three drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division run one, two, three on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Point leader Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL took his tenth win of the season in the Sparks Energy Rocket.
Mitchell has a best 14-week total of 687 points and has a 23-point lead over Cruz Wallace of Tuscumbia, AL, who is second in the standings with a best 14-week total of 664 points. Blake Ray of Russellville, AL is making it a close battle for the second spot. Ray is third with a best 14-week total of 662 points.
With his 50-point win, Mitchell was able to net on a 43. Wallace gained eight points by netting on a 41, and Ray gained seven points, as he also was able to net on a 41. Austin Steele of Moulton, AL made a big move in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National standings after a sixth-place finish at North Alabama Speedway in his 14th and final week to earn full points.
Steele earned 45 points, and that took him from ninth to fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman National standings with 640 points. Tony Chaney of Tuscumbia, AL finished eighth on Saturday night at NAS to net on a 41 and gain two points to his best 14-week total which is now 635 points. Chaney is now fifth in the National point standings.
Nine of the Top 10 in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division point standings have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons. Donovan Henry of Muscle Shoals, AL is eighth in the National standings with 611 points, and still has one more week to earn full points.
Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.
A drivers best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.
The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.
In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division Week 20 action on Saturday night, Neil Brown of Lexington, TN drove the Butler & Pickett Racing Special to victory at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN. Sherman Everette of Morris, AL was a first-time winner this season at ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL driving the CRJ Trucking Special.
Ryan King of Anniston, AL took his eighth win of the season at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the David King Automotive Special. The results are currently unofficial pending tire sample lab results.
The Friday night Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division race schedule for Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS was rained out. Saturday night races scheduled for Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS were also rained out.
