And he has been so good lately.

Hopefully for his wife and kids he will be ok.

According to DoD, he fractured his eye socket when he fell off a golf cart at the track.

At OSU getting surgery. Jesus, that’s messed up. Hopefully it’ll heal properly.

I can’t remember another year where there have been so many off track injuries effecting the sport ( Bloomquist, O’Neal, Madden )

Why were they there already? Doing a little quick testing before event maybe?

Nope, testing isn't allowed.

It’s not uncommon at all for drivers, teams, fans, etc., to show up a couple days, or more, early, for one of the crown jewel type events. It’s a great way to just hang out and relax before it gets down to business. I wish I could do it more often.

And back to topic ... hopefully this isn’t too serious. I’ve seen people come out of this same injury like it’s not a big deal, and I’ve seen it be something that takes some time. Based on the severity, he could race this weekend, or not race for a month. Here’s wishing Chris the best. He’s on one of the greatest streaks in the history of our sport. I’d hate to see it end because of something like this.

This could be a 7-10 day recovery time injury or several weeks recovery time depending on the severity. Let's hope for the less serious.

how in the world does any one fall off a golf cart ???

It happens a lot more than you think.....no seatbelts, an unexpected turn by the driver and out you go.

Not sure what happened in Chris's case but golf carts , like almost anything with wheels on it can be dangerous.

how in the world does any one fall off a golf cart ???So you don’t think in one weekend at Eldora or Myrtle Beach that anyone ever falls off a golf cart? Fall off, hit the wrong thing, it’s all bad.

I remember being in a high school, some poor kid I barely knew, parents house backed right up to the golf course. May or may not have been out there at midnight, or later, screwing around.

Why were they there already? Doing a little quick testing before event maybe?Well, if you’re in Arkansas and Pa, why go home, to turn around and have to be in Mansfield on Thursday? Especially when the co owner of the one team runs the place. And it’s a nice place.

Go there, hang out, hopefully don’t screw up. Something dumb happened, is what it is. Hopefully he regains use of his eye fully, I could care less why they were there already. But do carry on.

Before conspiracy theorists start whining, there are numerous teams already at the track. I first heard about it after it happened from a Rocket team.

No need to log extra miles, fuel, and wear and tear on your hauler.

Out of the Dirt Late Model scene... But Former St. Louis Cardinal Juan Encarnacion fractured his eye socket catching a foul ball in the eye while in the on deck circle. That was probably around 2007/08 and I don't think he ever played again. Sure hope he Madden's injury isn't as serious as that one was. Wishing him a speedy recovery. He was the middle of GREAT run.

Is it possible to break your eye socket without doing permanent damage to the eye?

Mason87
08-21-2019, 11:47 AM
Yes it's possible from my experience, a friend in college got popped in the eye during a fight and he required surgery and then another to fix the eye muscle a few months later, he went on continuing playing college baseball and was even drafted by the tigers. So I would assume it's just the severity and how it broke. But by looking it up and I know Google isn't the most reliable lol, it could be a big issue.

MADDEN RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL

Mooresburg, TN. — Scott Bloomquist Racing has very good news regarding the driver of the #0M, Chris Madden. After being transferred from the Avita ER, to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and undergoing a more thorough evaluation and CAT Scan to the fractured left eye socket. Driver Chris Madden has been released from the hospital.

Several specialists evaluated Madden’s injuries and have determined that surgery is not required at this time which is very positive news for the SBR team driver.

The #0M will not be able to compete in this weekends Dirt Million event. However, DR’s have indicated that once swelling subsides, Madden will likely be able to return to the (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)pit when he feels comfortable. This news is very good, considering surgery would require a lengthy recovering process.

Madden will be traveling home today to South Carolina to be with his family. Chris wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We would like to kindly request his privacy at this time.

Didn’t a bunch of guys get hurt from mud clods the year Cooke got hurt? I remember Chub Frank, Tim Fuller and Jeremy Miller all having issues at Charlotte?

During high school football days, a really long time ago, playing on a frozen field. My face shield broke on contact with the field. A pc. came back and I had a hairline facture of my eye socket. Beside the swelling and various colors on the left side of my face for nearly 3 weeks.

Madden may not know the severity of this injury because of possible swelling. Being released and sent home is a good sign and I wish him a speedy recovery.

how in the world does any one fall off a golf cart ???

Any drag racing fans here who've heard of the Stott brother , Quain and Mitch, who race Pro Mod? In 2010, if memory serves correct, Their father, Bob fell off the back of a golf cart at the track, hitting the back of his head. He never regained consciousness. It happens. Often times we take little things we do every day for granted!

I recall that Chub Frank had gotten mud packed so hard in his eye that he lost sight in it and missed a race due to an injury for the first time in over 35 years of racing. The track was as rough as a Moto X track. It was said that the whole dirt track concept at a NASKY track was a crooked set up. So many of the people that wanted to see real racing were going to the dirt tracks that NASKY saw fans that they wanted to be in their seats instead. It is said that the track was made the roughest and dirtiest in history on purpose so that the blacktop buddies that never seen the real racing that goes on at most dirt tracks wouldn't be impressed enough to go to another dirt race.

Three drivers were injured at Charlotte; Chub, Jeff Cooke, and I cannot recall the third. The track was not really rough, it was actually dry and the dirt made huge, dry 'clods' that where like bricks. At the time, a lot of drivers did not have any bars in front of them (open windscreen)- the Lowe's down the street sold out of barbecue grates as they were bought up to put protection in for the drivers. I believe Jeff was hurt the worst, know he went through multiple surgeries. Not sure if it was same weekend but also watched Moyer get 'knock out' at Charlotte, did donuts in the infield while he was out-same thing, big old clod to the helmet.

Illin brought up how silly he thought it was to be the first with " breaking news" shaking his dam head.....I was just offering up a picture of the hypocritical magic carpet you all fly around on.

Only difference is , this person that described the golf cart mishap got it correct.

And in your case it isn't " dead horse" it's " rented mule".

Few years ago in a town just south of me in Ms about 5-6 teens was packed on a golf cart acting as teens would and 3 of them was hanging on the back making it walk wheelies across a parking lot when one of them slipped off and his head hit on the pavement and he pronounced dead when the ambulance got there about 10-15 minutes after it happened. Golf carts is about like side by sides and four wheelers you can get seriously f’ed up on one if you ain’t very careful.
