Brandon Kinzer Leads Majority of Fall Nationals Opener; Lands on Podium!

(ALLEN, KENTUCKY) The Kinzer Motorsports team entered the first two events on the Schaeffer's Oil Fall Nationals Series schedule on August 16-17 in the states of Tennessee and Georgia. On Friday night in the $4,000 to win series lid lifter at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee, Brandon Kinzer laid down the quickest lap overall during qualifying to earn Fast Time honors and the pole position for the 40-lap main event. After leading the first thirty circuits in the headliner, Brandon wound up settling for a strong third place podium effort behind only victor Tommy Kerr and runner-up Robby Moses!

At North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday evening, a $10,000 top prize was on the line in the second-ever event for the Schaeffer's Oil Fall Nationals tour. BK stopped the clock eighth quickest in Group B during qualifying and later grabbed the fourth transfer spot through his stacked heat race. The Lexington, Kentucky ace then started the 60-lapper from the outside of the eighth row before eventually pulling off the racing surface shortly before the halfway mark to place twentieth in the final finishing order. Full results from both weekend tilts can be accessed online at www.southernnationalsseries.com.

“We unloaded a new piece the other night at Smoky Mountain and we were fast right out of the box,” commented Kinzer recently. “I was able to qualify well and lead the first thirty or so laps. That cushion, especially in turns three and four, was getting pretty treacherous and I should have moved down on the racetrack there at the end of the race. Maybe we could have held those guys off for another ten laps on the bottom and got the win, but who knows? Then at North Georgia, I feel like our car was pretty fast there as well, but the track just took rubber early in the feature and it was really hard to go anywhere. I just wound up pulling in before halfway to save our stuff and we will live to fight another day. It was an encouraging weekend though and I look forward to seeing what Dale (McDowell) can do in our stuff this coming weekend in the Dirt Million.”

Brandon is scheduled to enjoy the upcoming weekend off from racing action, but his #18 team will be busy with Dale McDowell slated to jump behind the wheel of their Kinzer Drilling Company / Quality Natural Gas / Will Kinzer Foundation for Autism Research sponsored Sweet-Bloomquist machine for the 2nd Annual ‘Dirt Million,’ which will take place from August 22-24 at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series mega-event will kick off later tonight and on Friday at the Buckeye State venue with a pair of duels. Drivers will be split into two groups on each prelim day, which each group competing in its own $10,000 to win preliminary feature.

Competitors earn points based on qualifying, heat races, and main event finishes during the two nights of preliminary action. The point totals will then be combined to set the heat race lineups for Saturday’s lucrative ‘Dirt Million.’ The total purse for the 100-lap crown jewel event currently stands at over $311,000 and is sure to rise prior to opening ceremonies on Saturday. With each of the 30 finishing positions in the ‘Dirt Million’ paid off a percentage of the total purse, the winner is set to receive at least $93,000 while last place will earn at least a $2,500 paycheck. Dale, who also wheeled a Kinzer Motorsports entry in the inaugural version of the ‘Dirt Million,’ was paid for a strong eighth place performance last year at Mansfield.
