ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division 2019 National Championship battle rolls into Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 22 competition with just three points separating the top two drivers. The home stretch of the 27-week season will see several drivers making moves to get into one of the Top 10 points fund paying positions.

There will be four Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division races on the Week 22 schedule of events this Saturday night. Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN will host Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 22 events.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 692 points. Just three points behind Riddle is the defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN. Gillespie has a best 14-week total of 689 points.

Both Riddle and Gillespie will be trying to net on a 48 in Week 22 competition. That means they must finish first or second to gain any points in their best 14-week total. Blake Cross of Centerville, TN is third in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 635 points. Cross will be trying to net on a 39.

Chuckie Gipson of Tuscumbia, AL is fourth in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 634 points. Gipson will be trying to net on a 42. David Nichols of Hodges, AL rounds out the top five of the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 626 points. Nichols will be trying to net on a 41 in Week 22 action.
