Rodney Sanders Sails to USMTS Victory at Fayette County
Eighth Annual Mississippi Thunder Modified Nationals Up Next

Happy, Texas (09/03/19) – Rodney Sanders not only visited Victory Lane over the weekend, but he was also able to extend his advantage atop the Casey’s Hunt for the USMTS National Championship in his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

“We were a little off at Deer Creek Speedway on Saturday night, but apart from that our team had a great weekend,” Sanders said. “Dereck [Ramirez] and I entered the weekend tied for The Hunt point lead, and he has been really consistent this entire season, so weekends like the one we just had are extremely important if we are going to win another USMTS Championship.”

Rodney Sanders followed the United States Modified Touring Series to Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) on Friday night as he kicked off the Labor Day weekend tripleheader. Drawing 33 cars for the seventh annual End of Summer Bash, Sanders secured his spot into the main event with an 8-lap heat race victory.

Starting the feature in the second position, Rodney overtook Lucas Schott for the lead for nine circuits until Ryan Gustin slipped past for the top spot. Sanders would ultimately settle up for a runner-up finish in the 40-lap affair behind Gustin with Lucas Schott, Zack VanderBeek, and Dustin Sorensen trailing them to the checkers.

On Saturday night at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the Labor Day Duel, Rodney followed up a fourth-place finish in his heat race with a 15-lap consolation victory. Passing six cars in the 40-lap feature, Sanders recorded an eighth-place finish.

In a field of 21 cars on Sunday at Fayette County Speedway (West Union, Iowa), Sanders started the night with a heat race victory, which positioned fifth on the starting grid for the A-Main. Sliding past Dereck Ramirez for the lead on lap 18, Rodney went on to capture his 13th win of the season. Ramirez, Jake O’Neil, Zack VanderBeek, and Ryan Gustin completed the Top 5. He earned $2,500 for his winning efforts.

Rodney now holds a 16-point advantage in the latest Casey’s Hunt standings, and he continues to lead the USMTS National Championship standings. For full results from these events, please visit www.USMTS.com .
