ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Although there were only six races on the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 24 schedule for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division, 18 of the Top 20 drivers saw action. While the top two drivers failed to net any points, the third and four-place drivers drove to victories to close in for the battle to win the $10,000 top prize.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS remains the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division point leader with a best 14-week total of 694 points. Lee finished third on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS and failed to net on a 48.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is second in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with a best week total of 686 points. Scarbrough finished sixth on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway and failed to net on a 47.

Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL drove the Sparks Energy Rocket to his seventh Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the season on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway in Danville, AL. Mitchell netted on a 46 to bring his best 14-week total to 684 points, and he is third in the National standings.

Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS took his fifth win of the 2019 season in the Steele’s Dive Special on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway. Russell is fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 683 points after netting on a 45. Cole Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS finished second to Russell at Hattiesburg Speedway on Saturday night, and is fifth in the standings with a best 14-week total of 678 points after netting on a 44.

A driver to watch in the coming weeks is Oakley Johns of Hohenwald, TN. Johns, a Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring regular, drove the Johns Farms Special to his fourth Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model win on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN.

Johns used his 14th and final week to earn full points in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division season to earn 50 points and move from 12th to eighth in the National standings with 664 points. The first weekly point total he will be trying to net on will be a 39.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 29-week season that concludes on October 13.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy, with the National Champion pocketing $10,000.

In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division Week 24 action, Jadon Frame of Decherd, TN drove the Frame Racing Rocket to his fourth victory of the season on Saturday night at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN. Peter Hazzard of Greenville, MS was a winner for the second time this season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS driving the C&C Refrigeration Special.

The 2015 VP Racing Fuels Young Guns Challenge Series Champion Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL took his fourth Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the 2019 season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Skinner’s Body Shop Special.
