ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division point leader Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL drove the Sparks Energy Rocket to his 14th win of the season on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway in Danville, AL. Mitchell netted on a 48 to bring his best 14-week total to 699 points, one point away from a Perfect Season.

Mitchell will now have to net on a 49, which means he needs his 14th 50-point win to reach the 700 point mark. It’s too early to determine if Mitchell will clinch the championship, as Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series tracks will have one more week to schedule Double Feature/Make-Up Features.

No Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks have scheduled any Make-Up Features for this coming weekend, Week 25 of the 2019 season, for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division. There are five weeks left in the season that has been extended an additional two weeks to 29 weeks due to an excessive amount of rainouts.

Donovan Henry of Muscle Shoals, AL finished second to Mitchell on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway to net on a 41 and move up to the second spot in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings with a best 14-week total of 677 points. Cruz Wallace of Tuscumbia, AL is third in the standings with a best 14-week total of 672 points. Wallace did not compete in Week 24 action.

Ryan King of Anniston, AL and Blake Ray of Russellville, AL are tied for the fourth spot in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National standings. Each driver has a best 14-week total of 668 points. King used his 14th and final week to earn full points to turn in a 41-point 11th-place finish on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

King went from 12th to a tie for fourth in the National point standings and with five weeks left in the 2019 season and a Double Point opportunity still possible, King still has a mathematical chance to reach the 700 point mark this season.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 29-week season that concludes on October 13.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division Week 24 action, Dakota Berry of Huntingdon, TN drove the 22 Auto Salvage Special to his seventh win of the season with a 40-point victory on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN. Justin Angle of Anniston, AL took his sixth win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the Randy’s Tree Service Special.
