Anybody know of any drivers heading to the dome this year?

I have seen pierce, Davenport, Babb, Bloomquist, gundaker, Shepard but I think that is about all I have seen confirmed.

Anyone know of others?

Idk Josh. Seems to be doing ok. Plenty of cars , fans and interest in it. I would think they are just starting to get the kinks out....

I'm really surprised they are still running that 45 mph race.

Have yo ever went to a go cart slick track with your friends? A true small round track slick track, where they throw the baby powder out, and there’s only 5-8 of ya out there, but everyone knows what they doing? You going what, 10-15 mph, but you race and have a blast. Racing is racing no matter the speed. Heck at my old job we’d race round track on the dock with forklifts when the boss wasn’t watching. Had a ball.

Just hope this year’s dome race is better than last years. They narrowed track 8 ft in the turns last year I believe. That hurt. Hopefully they widen turns again. And it appears they could make straightaways a touch longer by the overhead photos I’ve seen. We’ll see.

I have been to them all. Each year some things have got better and others have seem to trail off.

I definitely agree this year the pre-race hype / PR has definitely seemed to go downhill.

I'm interested to see the drivers list (which they have posted every year) and see if the amount of registered drivers is comparable to what we have seen in the past. The list on here so far is rather short IMO

Dirt crow your trying to compare apples to oranges. Full body cars with 800 hp engines to little go karts on CC engines.

I guess I am. But it’s still racing.

I'm afraid after the track conditions last year not being the best, and being so close to Christmas this year, they might not have the largest car count or crowd. Hopefully this year is the best yet to make folks want to come next year because if I remember off the top of my head it is close to Christmas again next year and then in 2021 it's able to be closer to the first of December again. I do agree about the hype and PR, pretty much everything I have seen this year is old videos from the previous years being reused.

Agreed. But he has hard on for anything Cody does, so don’t bother.(3wide)

I won’t go to the dome race because I do think it’s too slow, not for me. But, I’d watch the midgets there. And I won’t rag on it, just not for me.

I’ll get the PPV more than likely, dunno on a racing trip anytime soon. Hard enough to take a nice vacation every year.

Racing fork lifts lol. Only issue with that is they are top heavy, heavy, and if you flopped it, man ya better hold the steering wheel tight. Ran one in high school, a nicer Clark 30. I didn’t fuk off too much on it. My older cousin did, pulling the left front up around turns, who got me the job. I’ve just known how bad some of that horse play can turn.

I love indoor electric cart racing, or just anywhere that has Sodi carts, indoor or out. Gatlinburg our in nice racing carts. I’m anxious to try them in August. Anyone on here know if they are good?

Carts in pigeon forge are fun. We go to Fun Stop. 3 tracks with slick track in the back. But they’ll only throw baby powder out during warmer months. ...Back when I was a kid, there was a covered slick track in the forge with an official Dale Earnhardt souvenir store. It was the best slick track ever. It’s gone now but those memories with my dad will last forever.

The reason there are so many drivers you never heard of going there is because anybody could win a 45 mph race.

Maybe it's just not in the budget for guys nor is the hassle. Since there isn't much of an off-season. And the odds of winning just aren't that great unless your starting in the first few rows.

How are you gonna be in Saint Lou and NOT invite Mike? None of his friends would come. I don't even have a car right now. At least not one that's assembled. I didn't know Buddy was going he stomps my a** every time I race him. I wonder if Dykes Maynard got an invite? There must be a list in this thread I didn't see. I'd do this race if I had the time, hint I won't ever have the time, I have an old Navy buddy in the area. Have to order about a 9.55 gear set.

Is everybody running crates? that track is way too small for more than about 8 late models.

Bullring, that may not be true, A lot of these drivers have the great equalizer, speed, horsepower and suspension wins races, here its all about drivers ability.

And luck of the draw. I never watched the race before, so I Youtubed it. pull a 2014 out of the back of the shop and wreck it. I mean 103 entries is pretty cool and all. but man. That's literally I dunno. I'd like to do it, but I'd buy my bud's old 2004 Black front for a grand and put one of our 305 demo derby motors in it. the 99 Swartz would have dome car written all over it if it wasn't twisted. Heck.... it's gonna get twisted anyways, maybe I can straighten it out. Be pretty fun but not this year.

Except I need to earn that invitation. :-)

I personally not bashing. I like new names I never heard of that's how I find new drivers to cheer for. I understand the invite only on mods but don't like how they do the invites. example how would u invite a driver that raced mods a few times this year before you invite a driver that has 26 wins 56 top 5s in 72 starts? I'm glad he finally got the invite.

gator 49
11-24-2019, 07:42 AM
If the modified drivers are by invite only, they should not let late model drivers race both classes. Totally unfair to the mod. guys that race only in their own class, and don't get invited so a LM driver can run in both classes.

t4g2
11-24-2019, 08:01 AM
I agree but that's what they do. with midgets there inviting NASCAR drivers before regular drivers of that class. I was not going to attend if this mod driver wasn't invited. this driver 2 track championships his stats listed above and they waited to invite. that's crazy. anyway he's been invited and hope he does well.

Promoter will invite who he thinks will put butts in the seats. May not agree but it’s his dime. If attendance lags because of who he does not invite then he will get the message for next year. Personally seems to me like it would be popular to do a fans invitation poll, but again it’s his money and assure you he knows much more about race promotion than I do

t4g2
11-24-2019, 10:59 AM
Yes I know why he does it and understand it. it's all business. as I'm going for the first time. an I waited til he got invited before I decided to attend.

We also made our first trip last year and wasn't impressed, adding our hotel room tickets food drinks etc we spent in the neighborhood of 1,000 dollars, we're going to use that money for other races next summer.

The car still matters quite a bit. It's just a different need from the car.

It’s not a crown jewel. Except for the payoff and car count and crowd. But it’s the only chance for a Jim Dunn style upset today.

Exactly, now the day Mike Hamnerle or a guy who usually has no chance wins, then maybe I'll agree with anybody can win theory, it hasn't been true yet. I just hope they eventually figure out a solution to the track rutting. With the weight of the late model and the minimal depth of dirt on the slab idk if its possible...

they haven't had an upset winner yet. Yes lower budget teams can compete better there than knoxville or eldora but it's still the big boys up front at the dome.
