Rodney Sanders Snares USMTS Victory at 81 Speedway
Claims USMTS National Championship

HAPPY, Tex. (November 18, 2019) – Rodney Sanders wrapped up the 2019 season with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) over the weekend. Sanders drove his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine No. 20 to victory on Friday night.

The win in the annual Chisholm Trail Showdown marked his 19th of the 2019 season.

“We had a great weekend of racing. With the championship already clinched, it was somewhat of a relief to just race,” commented Sanders. “Getting a win on Friday night and finishing fifth on Saturday was a great way to cap off the season. Thank you to everyone who supports this team and helped make this a great year.”

In stout field of 48 modifieds, Sanders advanced one spot in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Earning the sixth-starting position for the A-Main, Rodney tracked down race-leader Tanner Mullens near the halfway point of the feature and the two began swapping back-in-forth for the top spot in the ensuing laps.

Holding off Mullens through lapped-traffic, Sanders rolled to the $3,000 triumph over Mullens, Dereck Ramirez, Brandon Sheppard, and Darron Fuqua.

Returning on Saturday afternoon for the 4th Annual Grant Junghans Memorial, Rodney placed second in his heat race behind Brandon Sheppard. Starting the $10,002-to-win A-Main in fifth, Rodney held his spot for all 50-laps to register a fifth-place finish behind Jacob Blees, Brandon Sheppard, Lucas Schott, and Tyler Wolff.

Entering the weekend, Sanders was crowned the USMTS National Champion for the third time in his career. With 39 starts in USMTS competition, Rodney ended his championship season with 10 wins, 29 top-five finishes, and an impressive 37 top-ten performances. He finished 212-points ahead of Dereck Ramirez in the final standings.
