I'm curious as to how old local track records are around the country... Is all the latest and greatest technology really that much faster?

It's a little faster in qualifying, it's much much faster on a slick track. Many tracks only really have 1 or 2 opportunities for the track record to drop anymore. Supers don't make weekly appearances. Then that 1 or 2 time chance has to be held on a fast surface.

The times on lap 80 to lap 100 in the World 100 are a half second better than in 2013 despite the fact the cars are now forced to run on the wrong tires (LM20) on 3 corners of the car.

^^^ Can't argue with the facts, but for my answer...

LaSalle Speedway:
National Late Model Series - Rick Eckert (12.232) on 8/2/2003
UMP Late Models - Jason Jaggers (12.213) on 6/8/2013

Around the 2000, the track record was around 12 flat. Believe it was Moyer or ONeal.
Mike Spatola broke it at a tick under 12 seconds about 6-7years ago.
I believe Jason Jagers broke that a few years ago. 11.9??

My regular track is Lernerville. The official track record of 14.812 was set in 2018. The unofficial track record (because it came during race action, not time trials) which was nearly a second faster at 14.059 was set back in 2011.

At Batesville, Bloomer ran a 12.79 at the Topless in 2012. I'd heard that Moyer ran a 12.75 or so some time in the late 90s but I can't find confirmation. By comparison, that's about what 360 sprints run there. Donny Schatz turned a 10.4 second lap at a WoO race in '05. That was ridiculously fast. I-30's LM record was set back in the 90s at a HavATampa race. Freddy Smith, maybe?

Faster has little to do with a better show....and we are in show bidness.

One year back in the 2000s,Richie Tosh set fast time at the Topless 100 at 13.21 or so. The next Spring at a Mod race at Diamond Park/SWA Speedway we asked Richie if that was the track record. He said that Moyer had the record at 12.75. That's rolling for a late model at Batesville.
I actually thought Kraig Kinser turned a 10 flat at Batesville. That is insane.

I remember that, it was 2000. He was a quarter second faster than the field in qualifying. Tosh is one of my favorites. He drove my uncle's modified a couple years, won a big race there in '02. All that aside, anything below about 13.5 is gnarly at Batesville. I thought Kinser timed in at 10.9 that year, but I could be wrong. Those guys are unbelievable. I also heard that Bloomquist ran a 14 flat in a mod at the 2nd hundred grand race, and Wayne Brooks did the same at a weekly show some time too. That's next to impossible in a modified.

That sounds crazy, what’s the back story?

Drop shock, it was an all-stars late model race. John Flinner was on rails that night. The track was super super rough and heavy. He lapped all the way up to 3rd. If I remember right only like 6 cars finished, maybe 8. It was one of the most entertaining nights at Lernerville I’ve ever seen. They would resurface the track and it would just blow apart in 2-3 laps. I miss seeing the 4T8 out there. Flinner has absolutely no fear.

It had rained the previous two days and rained till like 2 o'clock the day of the race. It was the heaviest the track had ever been, but cornfield rough because it was so soft. The time trials themselves weren't all that fast because the track was still pretty soupy. It had started to finally blow off an dry out enough to be racy by the heats, but it was still super heavy. Tim Dohm had started on the pole of his heat and pretty much held WFO it around the top just over the top of the bumps. After it happened, they even made mention how much faster it was than the track record at the time (IIRC, it was 15.2something then), but it wouldn't count because it hadn't been time trials.

I''ve heard of Mods there down the 14s. Pretty quick for a mod! Richie is cool. Loved the video on FB of Jeff Taylor doing some interiors mods to his race car at Shaw.

Don't know what the record is at Murfreesboro/Diamond Park/SWA,but it's bad fast when hooked up. The backstetch is really quick. It has a super smooth surface, but the groove tends to be around the bottom.

I've been to Diamond Park a couple times but it was slick as snot on a kindergarten doorknob. Red clay like that usually is hooked up when it's wet though. If they would fix the crown in the banking to where it was banked all across the track, they'd race all over it. On topic, I was at Paducah a few years ago when the NDRL series debuted, and Shannon Babb lowered the track record. That was a tough track that night.
