Brandon Overton Sweeps Winter Freeze X at Screven
DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park Next

HAZARD, Ky. (02/11/20) – Brandon Overton often refers to Screven Motor Speedway (Slyvania, Ga.) as his favorite track. Over the weekend, he showed everyone why.

The Wells and Sons Motorsports pilot drove the Crossfit Overton No. 76 Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells/ Cornett Racing Engine-powered Super Late Model to a weekend sweep and a $30,020 payday in the Winter Freeze X.

Overton departed East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) - following a string of podium finish during the week – and headed north to Screven Motor Speedway for the two-day Winter Freeze X.

Drawing 26 entries, Brandon started the night off with a heat race victory, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the A-Main. Leading wire-to-wire, Overton fought off early challenges from fellow front-row starter Ross Bailes to build more than a three-second margin at the finish. Bailes, Chris Ferguson, Gregg Satterlee, and Jason Covert completed the Top-5 finishers. Overton’s first win of the season netted him a $10,010 payday.

“I love coming home,” said Overton in Victory Lane. “I don’t know what it is. When I drive through the gate here I have like, no stress. There’re only 26 cars, but there ain’t a bad one in the pits. It’s just so competitive now. If you can get up front, it’s way easier to lead these things than it is to pass.”

The following night, Brandon laid down the second fastest lap in qualifying before capturing a heat race win. Starting on the pole of the feature, Overton survived a late-race challenge from Ross Bailes to capture his second win of the season and a $20,010 payday. Bailes, Michael Page, Jason Covert, and Dale McDowell trailed him to the checkeres in the 60-lap affair.

“I knew he was coming, but [Bailes] never gave me a sign that he was gonna move out,” Overton said of Bailes’ charge to the lead. “If the caution hadn’t come out … my car was really, really, really good ... could I have got back by him? I don’t know. I had a lot more tire left that I thought I did, so I really wasn’t pressing the issue. He kinda caught me off guard. I appreciate him running me clean and I’ll remember that.”
