B Shepp and Jimmy Owens are going to teach the youngster about racing full body cars and then. Then It won’t be long before Larson will be working out at that CrossFit Overton place trying to catch up to the real competition 👍

I have read alot of talk about Larson not being use to a full body car. He won races in a Super Late model on asphalt... full body car. Won races in Nascar in a full body car. Why is this being a topic?

For Thursday night Im expecting him to qualify around 18th out of 30 in his group which would put him starting around 6th in his heat... probably finish in the 5-7 range. Run the consi and finish 4-5 missing the feature. Then with laps under his belt and car adjustments make the show one or both of the next nights.

I like DS. But, he is no kyle larson, kyle has shown he climbs in any type of open wheel machine. Open karts at millbridge to a usac champ car at the Hoosier 100 and he wins. I don't think DS can do that as fast as kyle adapts. Let's not forget the crew chief that will be in his pit. Today's SLM wants and likes to be driven hard and I think that's right up young monies style. Can he win ? O heck yes. Will he win ? Will see, not Thursday, maybe Friday and by Saturday it would not surprise me at all.

08-26-2020, 09:35 PM
They need MILLIONS of $$ more badly! Talent isn't that much of an issue. Larson in a Super against this competition level, I'm afraid will be very tough. A week ago with the Summer Nationals would be a much different story. Like a lot of situations, a timing issue.

Kyle Larson will learn a lot this weekend. He is extremely talented and has proven he can win in anything. With that being said it appears there will be 50-60 cars there and it will be the best of the best. Being realistic I think Larson will struggle to make the feature tonight, he will make it and run Top 10 Friday, and he will run Top 5 on Saturday.I would not be shocked if we won one night, but I would be surprised. Now the important part - can you buy a Kyle Larson Late Model t-shirt online? I don't think "not talented enough" is the right wordage here.

It has more to do with getting adjusted to a car he's never been in before.

I was being sarcastic. The dude is one of the best racers in the world. If Kevin doesn't give him some crazy setup to drive, he will run well.

The hike up/down issue, which can hurt your entry, is about all that would be somewhat foreign to him. He will be more than fine.

Keneseth was good. Not GREAT. He did win a series Championship but didn't even win a race that year. Other than the incident with Logano (which I'm sure some drivers were glad to see happen) he was a pretty well respected driver on and off the track. They just needed a experienced safe bet when they hired him.

Not only was the 42 CGR car less than top-rung, pit-stops were lacking too. Larson would loose ground on every stop. Kyle was over-performing with a 2nd-rate car/team.

Keneseth was good. Not GREAT. He did win a series Championship but didn't even win a race that year.Better check the records Need. Kenseth won the Cup race at Vegas in early March during his 2003 Cup Championship season. That season is what precipitated the silly chase gimmick that paradoxically coincided with Kenseth's championship season. Roger Penske was one of the biggest and loudest whiners who pressured NASCAR to go full gimmick for the 2004 Cup season.

A true dirt late model fan, such as myself, would do well to welcome a world class racer such as Larson to the ranks of dirt late model drivers. Any dirt late model event he graces with his presence will garner much more attention with him participating than not. Publicity is good and Larson brings a lot of it by just showing up

Schatz has Richards advice but he isn’t doing everything to the car, I’m not down playing Larson’s ability because it is real, dude is as good as it gets but if people still think that Rumley isn’t one or possibly the smartest guy in the pits they are oblivious to what he has done!

Davenport is lacking speed and it has definitely shown, still consistent just can’t put the whole program together this year. You need to qualify, then win heats and then have a feature car and that just hasn’t been the case.

Larson is a modern day (and better IMO) version of Jack Hewitt. His talent for driving anything on dirt is pretty rare.

I do want to see how he is at conserving tires and how well he adapts to a much heavier car in the slick, but I suspect he’ll be fine.

Can Larson win in a LM? Watch the Port video, and study the finishing order.....lotta vets behind him. An impressive performance especially for a FIRST TIME EFFORT, no matter how you spin it.

I am an outsider I know, so some of my observations will be a little more sprint car centric.

Having watch Kyle live quite a few times in winged sprint, non-wing sprint and midget (was hoping to see him in a LM at Knoxville, but unfortunately not this year for sure).

Kyle has traits from a lot of drivers, diverse like Hewitt, can finesse a car like Wolfgang (I haven't seen anyone be able to diamond the corner at Knoxville like Wolfgang until Larson), will to win like Steve Kinser, and aggressiveness of Sammy Swindell. The big thing is, he can drive on any race surface or track conditions and dare I say, is better when it's slick than when it's heavy.

His limitation is he simply drives the car and readily admits he isn't mechanical, so his feedback is probably lacking compared to other drivers that know how to work on the car. Don't know if this is actually a detriment in today's world, but definitely is when it comes to dirt racing.

Tire conservation, don't know if it's setup or him, but I know his sprint car owner is notorious for running used tires and they typically still have more tire left after the feature than everyone else. Guessing he has less wheel spin maybe?

I will readily admit I didn't watch last night, and have no plans to watch tonight or Saturday, but I have no doubt that he is driving a car that is capable of running top 5 all 3 nights.

Do I think he could win? Yes.

Do I think he will win? No, but mostly due to his lack of laps in the car. I think from a driver standpoint, he is one of the top drivers in the world right now IMO. What type of car he's in and what type of track he's on has no bearing on that.

In the event he does win one night this week, promotors will be knocking his door down with offers to pay them to run a race at their track so they can pack the stands (If they aren't already), and sprint car and late model drivers and team owners will be lobbying Hendrick or Stewart-Haas to get him back in a Cup car before the end of the season.

Hey, buddy, I just want to say, I agree with every word. You aren’t an outsider. Your posts are always awesome. Like classic poetry. Your posts remind me of how it used to be on this site 20 years ago. We are witnessing history right now, and I hope everyone understands that. Kyle Larson is a generational type talent. It doesn’t happen often, so enjoy it while you can.

Yes Larson finished 5th.. but he was running 3rd and a car length from 2nd with 3/4 of a lap to go. So this wasn't 5th that he got because he was running 7th a half lap back and two guys had flats. Probably tried too hard on the last lap and it cost him but he was going for it.

I was surprised overall, he has talent without a doubt. My question is this.. assuming they have the World Finals can Larson be the first to win two features on the same night?

Amen. The official finish was 5th, but he was 2-3 easily.

Larson is what dirt racers used to be back in the days of andretti, foyt, Unser Bros and so many more. They could go from a dirt car tossing dirt to a indy car or nascar or pikes peak. We are witnessing a talent that hasn't been able to do what he's doing. Someone posted a open letter to Roger Penske on hose heads telling Penske he needs to get Larson in a indy car. Kinda gotta agree or at least try him out. He'd bring the house down.

Lot of crow being eaten in this post today. Pretty funny. What most of you miss when it comes to Kyle is that not only is he a very talented driver, he’s incredibly smart about when it comes to understanding whatever race car he is in. That combined with Rumley is gonna lead to a podium if not a win one of the next 2 nights. Sit back and enjoy the show.

IF they have the World Finals at Charlotte and Kyle Larson runs the Sprint car and Late Model it will be the highest attended World Finals in the history of the event.

The race has been sold out for years. You couldn’t conceivably fit any more people there.

The people that do go will be more entertained if Kyle is in attendance. Would be really cool if he managed to pick up a big block mod ride too.

I have been to the World Finals every year except the first one. I realize the stands are sold out every year. I have also seen the pits with more and more people each year. I doubt they will stop selling pit passes this year. Yes.. you can fit more people in there.. this year will be the most attended if Larson is there racing.
