What are the leading pros and cons of forward strut and reverse strut front ends. Other than the obvious of more shock travel

Theoretically the car doesn't know the difference on either if the rods are put in the right locations to be exactly the same. Now this isn't always possible due to oil pan clearance or a number of other reasons.

That being said, I'm talking when the rods are located so they both produce the same caster gain/loss, anti-dive/pro-dive, or anything else so they are exactly the same

Front strut

Pro:

1. More clearance on the RF tire to turn more right without contacting the strut rod or having to route it in a manner that weakens the lower arm

2. Easier to install in the location wanted without things being in the way: dry sump lines, oil pan, steering shaft, etc

Con:

1. Will hit ground easier on RF

Rear strut

Pro:

1. More RF ground clearance during roll

Con:

1. Usually a weaker lower arm due to strut has to S shape or be less back so RF tire won't hit when turning extreme right

2. Pain in the arse to get in right position without having clearance issue

3. Due to shorter distance back it adds stress to the frame mount and more likely to rip or bent in a wreck

But as I said you can have them front or back and the car won't know the difference if done correctly besides the ground clearance differences, strength, clearance issues

Sure seems to be the new trend across most of the chassis builders. Most use the the "s" shaped rear strut style arm as opposed to the straight strut similar to a conventional forward strut.

XR1s work pretty well with a front strut.

1) Something eventually touches the ground.
2) You can make both ways work the same.
3) Its probably better to make the strut in tension under braking, as opposed to compression.
4) DLM is a monkey-see, monkey-do sport. A car wins with an STP sticker on it, they all have it next week.
