Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series Continues Busy Stretch at Wythe and Smoky Mountain

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) With five exciting rounds of Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series action already in the books in 2021, a lucrative doubleheader greets the cars and stars racing with the tour over the upcoming May 7-8 weekend in the states of Virginia and Tennessee. On Friday night, the picturesque Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia will host their inaugural Spring Nationals program, as a $10,053 top prize will be on the line. While the May 7 stop to Wythe Raceway will mark the first-ever visit by the Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals tour, its sister series - the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series - has made a plethora of appearances at the 1/2-mile facility.

The dirt-slinging competition will then quickly shift to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday evening for a similar $10,053 to win event – dubbed as the ‘Smoky Mountain Spring Shootout’ – that will wrap up the Mother’s Day weekend twin bill. The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series has visited the Volunteer State speedplant on five different occasions, which has produced five different winners: Tommy Kerr ('13), Billy Ogle, Jr. ('14), Casey Roberts ('15), Scott Bloomquist ('16), and Dale McDowell ('19). Both shows are sure to draw talented fields, as drivers vie for their share of over $61,000 in Super Late Model prize money that is up for grabs over the weekend!

Jonathan Davenport (Tazewell Speedway), Brandon Overton (I-75 Raceway), David Payne (Tri-County Race Track), Dale McDowell (Crossville Speedway), and Tanner English (Clarksville Speedway) have already picked up wins with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series during the 2021 campaign. A total of seven drivers have perfect attendance so far, which keeps their hopes alive to pocket the $10,053 payday for claiming the Championship. Currently, Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Dale McDowell has a twenty-four point lead over two-time miniseries champion Donald McIntosh in the point chase with Cory Hedgec0ck, David Payne, and Stacy Boles rounding out the top five.

At Wythe on Friday, May 7, the pit gates will swing open at 4:00pm and the grandstands will start to allow patrons into the facility starting at 6:00pm. Hot laps will then get underway at around 7:30pm with racing to follow. Adult admission into the grandstands is $35.00, while admittance into the pit area will require $45.00. As always, kids ages 6 and under will be admitted into the grandstands for FREE. If you wish, you can also save $5.00 by purchasing your general admission ticket or your pit pass online at www.happsnow.com/event/Wythe-Raceway.

A complete show of FK Rod Ends Group A & B qualifying, heat races, consolation events, and a 53-lap headliner is in store for the fans at Wythe Raceway. The tire rule will be Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. The entry fee will be $100.00 and transponders will be available to rent. ALL Super Late Model drivers will advance into the main event, but if you can’t start the race for some reason you will be awarded $75.00 in tow money. Along with Super Late Models on the four-division racing card will be the Super Street, Pro Mini, and UCAR classes.

At Smoky Mountain on Saturday, May 8, the pit gates will open at 2:00pm, while the grandstands and tier parking will open an hour later at 3:00pm. Admission into the grandstands is $25.00 for ages 12 and up, while children ages 11 and under will be admitted for FREE. Those ages 12 and up will be admitted into tier parking and the pit area for $40.00. Kids ages 11 and under will be allowed into tier parking for FREE, while the same age group will be admitted into the pit area for only $20.00.
