Jimmy Mars Wins $10,000 in Thrilling Masters Finale Finish; Fergus Falls Tonight!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars recorded his third victory of the 2021 season and his biggest win to date on Saturday, June 19 in the annual 'Masters' grand finale at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin! Jimmy, who finished second in Thursday's $3,000 to win Late Model opener at CLS and third in Friday's $5,000 to win program, capped off the three-day weekend in victorious and thrilling fashion on Saturday evening. After advancing three spots in his heat race to finish third, Jimmy streaked from the seventh starting position to lead on a couple of different occasions during the 50-lapper. The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace then executed a perfect last-lap pass on John Kaanta to bag the $10,000 top prize for his 55th career Cedar Lake Late Model triumph!

The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer also entered an Open Wheel Modified during the lucrative 'Masters' weekend. Jimmy placed third in his heat race on Thursday night before winding up twelfth in the $3,000 to win feature, while he ran second in his heat race, led laps 5-8 of the $5,000 to win main event, and eventually finished sixth in Friday's 40-lapper. In the finale on Saturday, which also boasted a $10,000 winner's check, Jimmy won his B-Main before being paid for a seventeenth place effort in the headliner. Full results from each of the three days during the 'Masters' weekend can be viewed online at www.cedarlakespeedway.com.

“Everything went pretty well for us at Cedar Lake last weekend,” quoted Mars earlier this morning via telephone. “I would have liked to have been a little bit better on the Modified side of things, but we fought through some issues and led a few laps against a strong field of cars. In the Late Model, we showed some speed each night and had a heck of a race with (John) Kaanta there for the win on Saturday. It’s always fun to get a victory, but that was a great race and we were lucky to come out on top at the checkers.”

After a hectic ‘Masters’ weekend, Mars Racing will compete in only one event this upcoming weekend, as they will travel to the Gopher State. Jimmy will vie for the $2,000 top prize later tonight, June 25 in the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series show at I-94 Sure Step Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The team will then take Saturday off to start preparing their Super Late Model for an upcoming swing with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series, as the national tour will snake through the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota for six shows from July 9-18.
