Tanner English Knocks Down Pair of Top Tens in Rain-Soaked Week on Summer Nationals

(NORRIS CITY, ILLINOIS) Riggs Motorsports and driver Tanner English will return to the DIRTcar Summer Nationals grind later tonight, June 30 in the Badger State. The Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin will greet the cars and stars of the “Hell Tour” this evening, as a $5,000 top prize will be up for grabs. From there, the #81e team will travel through the states of Iowa and Illinois during the remainder of the week to compete in a total of five series events from June 30-July 4.

Following Beaver Dam, Tanner will tackle Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa on Thursday, Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois on Friday, Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, Illinois on Saturday, and Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois on Sunday. A $5,000 winner’s check will also be on the line at Davenport and Lincoln, while the shows at Joliet and Fayette County will boast a $10,000 payday. Tanner comes into the week second in the latest version of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings, as he trails leader Bobby Pierce by only 31 markers.

The team is coming off a rain-soaked week in which only two events escaped the wrath of Mother Nature. At LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois last Wednesday, June 23, a 35 car field assembled at the 1/4-mile oval to do battle for a $5,000 paycheck. Tanner laid down the sixth quickest lap in Group B during the qualifying session before placing third in his stacked heat race. After starting the 40-lap main event from the outside of the sixth row, Tanner was able to steer past five competitors during the caution-free affair to leave LaSalle with a solid seventh place performance.

On Friday, June 25 in a $10,000 to win “Hell Tour” tilt at Sycamore Speedway in Maple Park, Illinois, Tanner stopped the clock thirteenth quickest overall during qualifying before climbing to third in his heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the fourth row in the 40-lapper, Tanner raced hard all over the top ten during the contest before landing in the sixth finishing position behind only victor Brian Shirley, Bobby Pierce, Ashton Winger, Ryan Unzicker, and Jason Feger.

The shows at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Illinois and Federated Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri were rained-out, but have been rescheduled for July 7 and August 14 respectively. The event at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois was lost on Sunday due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled.
