Tanner English Earns Quartet of Top Fives on Summer Nationals Trail Last Week
(NORRIS CITY, ILLINOIS) The Riggs Motorsports team is fresh off a hectic week on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour, which saw them compete in five events from June 30-July 4 at five different dirt facilities in three different states – Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. Tanner English took advantage of the good week of weather to post a quartet of Top Five performances and one additional Top Ten effort. His best run of the week came at his “favorite track” on Saturday night at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, Illinois.
Tanner clicked off the second quickest lap in Group B during DIRTcar Summer Nationals qualifying prior to picking up the checkered flag in his heat race. The Benton, Kentucky ace then drew the third starting spot for the 50-lap affair and came out on top of a spirited battle with Shannon Babb to nab the runner-up position behind only $10,000 winner Brandon Sheppard!
The #81e team also finished fifth on Wednesday at Beaver Dam (WI) Raceway, eighth on Thursday on the 1/4-mile oval at Davenport (IA) Speedway, fifth on Friday at the Dirt Oval (IL) at Route 66, and fourth on Sunday in an Independence Day clash at Lincoln (IL) Speedway. Tanner currently sits second in the latest version of the “Hell Tour” point standings, as he trails point leader Bobby Pierce by only 35 markers. With no rest for the wicked, Tanner and Riggs Motorsports will jump right back into competition with the grueling DIRTcar Summer Nationals later tonight, July 6 at the sprawling Knox County Fair Raceway in Knoxville, Illinois. A $5,000 paycheck will be on the line later tonight, as the series invades the 1/2-mile fairgrounds oval for the very first time. Another busy week greets the team, as they will enter six more shows – weather pending – from July 6-11 in the states of Illinois and Indiana.
