Side note......a guy on one of their Lucas race FB page, says he has the 1995 BWRC that Bloomer won all the money with that year! Pretty cool!

I think they pulled the plug too soon on this one.

I was wondering the same thing!

Wouldn't be the first time this year, the gas shortage cancellation was also premature.

Any word on if it will be rescheduled?

On the Lucas website, it says they "look forward to returning next year".

Cherokee posted on their Facebook page that the decision was out of their control, must have been Lucas's decision to pull the plug

Didn't Lucas Oil know that Cherokee has NEVER had too much water. Never had, never will!

I live one mile from Cherokee. Just had one little shower, barely enough to settle the dust.

Lucas just drove across half the country to watch it rain for 2 days recently too! Probably played a part.

I hate it for the track as they have not had much luck with their national tour races this year. I agree that Lucas pulled the plug too early. I was looking forward to attending the race tonight.

Seemed like an easy decision in my opinion.

$1/mile to travel up and down the road right now.

Lucas teams just made a 30-36 hour round trip to Minnesota and back home for nothing when the forecast was nothing but rain.

The forecast all week for Cherokee was between 70%-88% rain depending on what weather forecast you go by.

I'm pretty sure these folks make money by racing, not sitting at home or at a bar. ;) As a racer I'd be upset, but from a track's or series' pov it's hard to not make a decision early, especially when it doesn't look promising. Predicting the track of a storm isn't an exact science either.

Personally I think this decision could have been put off until they had seen what the system was actually doing, especially since they are racing twice more over the weekend. It could have turned into three days of racing/purses!

We'll never know! Some rain, cloudy conditions, and good track prep....it could have been great!

The Tri-City and Macon weekend in April was a perfect example of races being called off way too early. Lucas Oil has been bad about that this season...

This is a slightly different scenario - back in June when they were going to Deer Creek and got rained out that was the only place they were going. This weekend has races at both Cherokee and Smoky Mountain so the drivers have the travel regardless.
