Donald McIntosh Claims First-Career Southern Nationals Title
Receives $10,053 for 2021 Points Title

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (08/03/21) – Donald McIntosh and Blount Motorsports clinched the 2021 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Championship on Saturday night at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway.

The title was earned shortly after the team recently had to switch from their familiar No. 7m to teammate Tommy Kerr’s No. 4t halfway through the series. The change came as the team struggled to find the handle on their Massey Electric Company No. 7m Ole Ben Franklin Motors/ Stowers Cat/ XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Vic Hill Racing Engine Super Late Model.

McIntosh received $10,053 for his first-ever series title.

“It’s pretty wild man. I never would’ve guessed that if we would win one of these deals, that we’d win it like we did,” McIntosh said after his 16th-to-fifth run in Saturday's points finale at Tazewell Speedway. “From the start of this (series), I would’ve told you we would’ve been lucky to run top-five in these points. We could Hail Mary to a decent run, but we didn’t have speed really anywhere we went. We were struggling to make the car do what we wanted. Finally, we changed to the backup car and it’s just like a light switch hit.

“I can’t thank David (Bryant) and everyone at Blount Motorsports enough for doing everything necessary to make the championship possible.”

Tuesday night saw Donald McIntosh return to the driver’s seat of his teammates No. 4T Late Model at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) for the sixth stop of the 2021Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals. Following the third-fastest qualifying effort in his group, McIntosh gained three spots in the 40-lapper to finish second. He followed Kenny Collins to the checkers with Cody Overton, Shawn Chastain, and David Payne rounding out the Top-5.

For the Scenic City Classic on Thursday evening at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.), Donald topped his group in time trials before registering his second straight runner-up finish, which came behind Sam Seawright. Dale McDowell, Jadon Frame, and Cody Overton completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Friday evening at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) with a $10,053 top prize on the line, McIntosh followed up the fifth-fastest time in his group with a 10-lap heat race victory. Losing two spots in the 53-lap feature, Donald posted a fourth-place finish.

The following night at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the Ray Varner Ford 53, Donald grabbed the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him 16th on the starting grid for the $10,053-to-win A-Main. Marching his way into the Top-5, McIntosh advanced 11 spots in the 53-lap affair to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Michael Chilton, Dale McDowell, Zack Mitchell, and Ross Bailes at the line.

His fifth-place finish secured his first career Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals title. He earned $10,053.

On Sunday afternoon for the rescheduled rainout at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) which was declared a non-points race, McIntosh's fifth-place finish in the feature was his sixth-straight Top-5 finish.
