Announcers at Charlotte said they grow/keep grass on the track during off-season. They said it adds good nutrients into the soil. A few months back I was driving by and actually saw the grass on the track. Hmmm,

I had read that in the old days it was not uncommon to seed down a track in the fall with a cover crop of some sort of grass, oats, or similar in order to hold the track through the winter. In Spring it prevented runoff and erosion and when it was worked in it created organic matter to help hold moisture. Some fairgrounds tracks even spread manure from the barns at the fair directly onto the tracks for the same reason.

With that good a success with the cover crop, they should look at planting winter vegetables on it! Lease that out to a local farmer and make a few bucks and get the cover crop for free!

Perhaps they could get with that watermelon guy in Nasky and then plant it with melons. Then when it comes time to race they could run them over with a roller and then WALLA : the track is watered already ! !

I know the lab results are beyond reproach (eye roll) but maybe they should send samples of the seed & fertilizeer used along with the tire samples.

The way that all of these states are legalizing Marijuana they could grow that there and use the profits for proper maintenance of the facility ?

Potatoes maybe, field corn def not! Not enough acreage!

It would be prime for a tobacco allotment or may be even sweet corn!

Ask any farmer about it. Dirt with almost anything grown over it is much better than being naked.

I am amazed at the number of people that believe the driver that wins the Nascar All Star race gets the million dollars.

Im sure there are all kinda clauses in their contracts for bonuses beside their salaries. It wouldnt surprise me if some got all the winnings in certain events!

If you are wondering where you can buy everything for plants. It's easy to solve your question right now. For plants you can order lechuza plant (https://getpotted.com/planters/brand-lechuza/) in a specialized online store. This way both the quality is excellent and there is a wide range to choose from. I highly recommend it!

When Crown Point closed, the story going around was that the buyer wanted to put a restaurant there, but was denied due to soil contamination. They likely can't just plant items for human consumption, on a racetrack in the off season.

Potatoes? No way. Spuds need loose sandy soil. Clay is way too heavy to grow decent spuds.

Corn? Nope. Corn is nitrogen intensive to get a decent yield. Too high on input costs and you don't want that much stubble and stover to try and incorporate into the surface.

Now soybeans, maybe. Soybeans are relatively easy and they put nitrogen back into the soil. Deer love them too so if the climate supports it, you might get a good food plot out of it. Set up a hunting stand up in the tower. Off season dual use of the race track.

No, stick with grasses. For a cover crop you can just use a broadcast spread and disk it in and you're done. Easy to till in once spring arrives.
