Southern Nationals Headline Weekend Full of Racing at Screven July 22nd and 23rd
Sylvania, Georgia (July 18, 2022) – Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia is set to host it’s 23rd Annual Rebel Yell event this July 22 and 23. The event will be headlined on Saturday by the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Super Late Models. The 53-lap event will pay $10,053 to the winner amid a total purse of over $35,000 for the 22-car starting field. The event marks the 15th appearance in the 19-year history of the Ray Cook promoted tour at Redd Griffin’s high banked red clay oval.
Evans, Georgia driver Brandon Overton, who won the event in 2020, is one of the many drivers expected to enter the event. Overton is coming off what is widely regarded as the best single season by any Dirt Late Model driver in history with 2021 winnings just shy of the 1-million-dollar mark. Overton will face stiff competition in the form of several series regulars including Hall of Famer Dale McDowell, 3-time ULTIMATE Series champion Zack Mitchell, Ashton Winger, John Henderson, Carson Ferguson, Kenny Collins and several others. The field of challengers is also expected to include regional favorites like Chris Ferguson, Cla Knight, Wil Herrington, Jimmy Sharpe, Jr. and Pearson Lee Williams.
Friday and Saturday night will see full racing cards which include a pair of 602 Bandit Series events ($1500 to win Friday and $2000 to win on Saturday) along with a $5000 to win SCDRA Compacts feature. Other exciting divisions in action include Street Stocks, Road Warriors, Cop Stock Crown Vics and Sharp Mini Late Models. Friday, July 22 the gates open at 4 PM with the Drivers Meeting at 7 and Hot Laps at 7:30. Grandstand tickets for adults are $20 with Children 12 & under FREE with paid adult. Pit Passes for adults are $35 with children 6-12 $20 and children 5 & under FREE. Saturday. July 23 the pit gates open at Noon and grandstands at 3 PM. The drivers meeting is scheduled for 6:15 and hot laps to follow at 7. Grandstand tickets for adults are $20 with Children 12 & under FREE with paid adult.
