I remember the last time he won a heat at eldora, I think it was in 21. He was out of breath and it looked someone had thrown a 5gal bucket of water on him when he got out of the car. I think being decent physical shape is more important than some might realize, especially in a 100 lap race.

I know of racers who are really in good shape and fight their car to get around the track and are totally exhausted after the race. Real racers dont give up when their car is not right. If a racer has his car really setup well he can still run well for a whole race on a half mile track despite not being perfectly fit. A quarter or third mile track can wear a driver out quicker than a half mile because the driver does not get to relax on a long straitaway .
