pure stock questions

alright im going to start in the next few weeks building my new pure stock. my local track has a 100 inch wheelbase min and 5 lugs, plus some other but i have a 85 mustang hatchback rusting out back and we dont run mini's on a regular schedule so ive decided to make it into a pure stock. i have a 302 im gonna put in it with a c4. just getting started so trying to keep budget low this year cuz i gotta buy everything. but what im wanting to get is other people opinion on how it's gonna work? as well as some starting point for springs and chassis %'s.

thats ive kinda figured was 1200 RF 1000 LF 275 on RR and 225 LR, the 5.0 struts up front and just 5/5's in rear. the track is a small 3/8's mile semi high banked prob 15* straights and 20-25* turns.

dont have no numbers for you,..but seen a boy with a mustang runnin mid pack in 4cylinders drop a 351w in it an tryed super street,..was a top 3 car 2nd week threw rest of season,..that short 99-100 inch wheel base give them 105 inch an longer cars a fit,an won some races,...good luck

I don't think you will need those stiff front springs due to the suspension design. I would think about 700 lbs would be all you need, you would want to look into that alittle further.

Yea I'm not real sure where to start with spring cuz I figure a mini setup would be too soft so may cross a mini setup spring with a full framed car andrhen start in the middle.

I am doing the same thing with a mustang. Do you have any suggestions on rear gear to use w/the c4? I will be running a 1/4 and 3/8 track, and possibly the occasional trip to the 1/2 mile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am still pretty new to racing. I currently have a 3.73 rear and a 2.73 I think its a 2.73 tag is hard to make out.

Actualy I don't need Lincoln or crown Vic parts for the 5 lug conversion I can use 83-86 and other years as well but it's a complete swap no upgrading nothing just swapping and it's done.

83-86 what ? mustangs were all 4 lug from 1979-1993 with the exception of the svo... good luck finding those parts.. not to mention the svo ran a 7.5 rear which prolly isnt the best idea with a v8, what you really want for a 5 lug conversion would be a lincoln lsc or 80s continental which had 5 lug disc brake 8.8 rear and the lincoln rotors should bolt right to your spindles, i also have used a complete sn95 set up on a 85 gt once, it went pretty smooth, needed different brake hoses and had to make spacers for the ball joints but it basically bolted right on, the sn95 parts widen the car a bit and are supposed to have better geometry, not to mention are way more available than the 80s stuff, do some research but im thinking that 94-98 stuff would be what you would want, you will find the rears in drum or disc, i would try to get a disc rear from a 94-95 gt, you should also verify that what ever size wheels you have to use will clear all the calipers on what ever parts you end up finding (you might not be able to put 15" wheels on the 94+ gt rear end)

sorry didnt realize i didnt specify, ranger though the drivers side axle and the drums are complete swap over, as well as the front just go up to az and buy ranger rotors and no need for new calipers its all a complete swap using ranger parts and the axles can be found at a junk yard. and the drums and rotors at your local part store.

yup, the ranger axles work, but you still have drum brakes on a 7.5 rear end, you have to use two of the same side axles, so you need two rangers and a junk yard willing to part out two complete axles, i guess i never tried ranger rotors, but i do know the lincoln lsc rotors are a direct bolt on no need to change calipers

mustang gt rotors on the front have done it when we ran mini stock and ranger axles made car 5 hole easyer to get wheels ran 15in tires

im assuming you mean svo rotors ? the gt were 4 lug also

ranger front rotors work you just hove to use the mustang bearings in them

and its the 2 short side range axels for the rear you could look i nto the 95 and newer rear ends and front suspention there 5bolt
