Has anybody ever run a escort flywheel on there 2.3 ford engine? If so, what year model should I use? What is the advantage, weight? Do you have to run a different starter? Please send pm, with info. Thanks in advance.

Yes it bolt up without mods. You will need to use shorter flywheel bolts as the longer 2.3 bolts will bottom out. I think a 97 is a couple pounds lighter then the earlier 90s
No need to change starters. I used the stock pressure plate from escort too. I used a longer throwout bearing.
Thanks for the information.
Not sure about the '97 ... the one we use is from the 91 - 96 Escort 1.9L. It weighs just over 16 pounds (we have a 16 pound minimum rule). Works with stock pressure plate and disk, but does require the Escort bolts as mentioned above, and a longer throwout bearing (Timken p/n 614037). If you can still find it, you can save another pound or so by running the disk from a 71-72 Pinto 1600 (with German trans 23t) with the 91-96 Escort pressure plate.
If you run the T5 trans, the 614037 timken TOB will not fit on the trans shaft, only fits the 4 spd. trans.
prube with another model ford orion carries the same template for mounting on the wheel.
